The one that says "portal". I misread the thread maybe? What do you mean by valve on wii OP?

That's a photo taken at EA's event in San Francisco last week. It's the menu screen of an Xbox 360 demo they had set up. Valve originally intended to show off all five products from the Orange Box, but EA made them restrict the demo to Portal.

Valve is the developer behind the Half Life series. One of their games is called "Portal" and it will be released in a Half Life pack this fall. That's what the interview is about. One of the questions in the interview is whether or not Valve is thinking about developing a game for the Wii.

At the end he says they missed the boat on Wii, but they are interested in developing for it now that its selling :lol

Did anyone get to play HL2 on 360 at GDC? How did it run?

In the interview the guy said he wouldn't be surprised if there was a Wii project from Valve in the future because so many people in the company are excited about the system right now.

So you put wii in the thread title to mislead us?

Better add in 360/PS3 for instant increase in views.

Sadly only Portal was shown; EA didn't let them show the other games. Still, Portal ran great and I would be very surprised if HL2 didn't as well. Portal's environments aren't as big as some of HL2's of course, but they're built on the same tech and were likely optimized for 360 fairly simultaneously.

It kind of bugs me that the PC is losing ANOTHER of its big exclusives, but I guess it's good that Half Life gets spread around and you console only guys can experience its sweetness. I just wish they'd release the damn thing already, or at least the parts they'd finished on Steam. I'd pay 20 bucks for TF2 right now.

i really wanna see what valve could do with the gravity gun on the wiimote.

Valve always seemed like a top choice for a developer that could really show the potential for this type of interface.

Yeah, me too. The problem is - the user base is growing so quickly that a lot of people may feel then waiting a bit is not such a bad strategy.

Games like Oblivion and HL2 Orange make purchasing any other nextgen ($60) game that much more painful... Bless Valve for showing us how much other games rip us off.

Even though his comments on the Wii are what made me watch the video, and got me really excited, it was learning about that 6 in 1 game containing all the Half Life 2 games and Portal that really impressed me.

Portal alone might sell me on a 360/PS3 (Unless it comes out for the Wii, of course)

its really pissing of to hear them say that. I would pay crazy amounts of cash to see HL2 and its entourage on Wii. But the second coming of Jesus would have to be CS Wii. I don't wnat another IP, I want HL. Oh well, I guess once its become the clear market leader, and once we see some games with blood and violence do well, the image if "teh Kiddie" will wear off slighlty. I am confident that Wii is capable of faithfully running HL2 on it.One can dream.

xbox half life 2 is pretty ugly.

if Valve put any effort into a good Wii port, wouldn't it atleast look as good as it would running on the best possible 2004 PC?

I don't think the xbox screens look terribly horrible... sure they don't look nearly as polished as the xbox 360 visuals, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that they look bad. If valve could somehow find a very unique way to integrate the Wiimote controls into a game that looks similar to the xbox screens I, for one, wouldn't have a huge problem with it.

Going by what is known today, I'd say the Wii GPU is similar to a Radeon 8500 wrt performance, at best, which is very 2001-ish.

In 2002 we saw the ATI 9700 pro and first GeForce FX cards.. Totally reaching. Those cards were already targeting resolutions of 1024x768 and above with decent amounts of fsaa & aniso, which is beyond what is needed for Wii and its 480p resolutions.

I'm sticking with 2001, e.g. Radeon 7500-8500.
