Geez.
I mean some of his points are definitely valid (and some are a definite stretch) but it's reads very oddly, like he's trying to justify the system specifically to internet forum posters. |

I really like these guys, but i wish they would stop with the "We are 100% independant, Sony has no say on what he do or say"....
Everytime, they love to say that. Wow...kiss my ass, that's nothing but PR dick sucking on Sony. Sorry, some stuff was hard to "shallow" (Ratchet and clank on DVD5s and he sayin 6 Gb...), and then it came to the Wii and bamm....it's like this guys is really reaching sorry. Never tought to see a Developer go so low. Funny that i only remember Sony devs doing this, i don't remember a Nintendo Dev or MS dev playing PR like this. The hdmi and Casino royale touch before it was funny though Last edited by PleoMax : 03-27-2007 at 06:53 PM. |

Yeah this sounds like a typical laundry list. Let's flush out the typical responses.
Quote:
2. XBL service is superior. 3. Lazy programmers FTL. 4. I care about games, not movies. 5. HDTV is still niche and nobody knows how to hook the cords up. 6. Which will still fail. 7. LOL FUD FUD THEY SAID THE SAME THING ABOUT THE DS PRINTSMONEY.GIF 8. And half the RAM. 9. Which means people still aren't buying the PS3, lol. 10. Not Everyone has Five Hundred Ninety Nine Dollars to spend moron. There we go. Let's see what comes up. |

Obviously I’m exaggerating, but the Wii does have many characteristics of popular mainstream fads. It’s instantaneously accessible, it’s unlike anything you’ve tried before, and it’s great fun to share with friends. In short, it’s everything Nintendo said it would be and it has captured the world’s imagination. The only downside is that the world is easily distracted. Tickle Me Elmo captured the world’s attention at one point, as did Furbies. They were both instantly accessible, were unlike anything people had seen before, and were fun to share with friends. But a year later, after everyone had seen them and tried them out, their popularity waned.
That's just plain stupid. TME and Firbies are a one time thing. Once you buy one, that's it. Nothing more. The Wii is nothing like that being as it has a thing called games.Oh, and whatever happened to that fad called... Um... Pokemonsters, or whatever it was called? |

Juicy.
Also, the man is right. Not so sure about the Wii but totally agree with the rest. I've expressed identical opinions point for point for a long while and I can attest that it's certainly not universal opinions here at GAF to put it mildly. Last edited by Wollan : 03-27-2007 at 06:53 PM. |

The scariest thing about this article is that he's using the exact same arguments that have been brought up countless times in GAF, only to be debunked.

What I don't get is why he took what was clearly an opportunity to gain a lot of ears (eight zillion people will most likely read this) and just regurgitated the same stuff that the same people have been saying since like 15 months ago.
I would have preferred some inside perspective on why the PS3 will win, not flimsy arguments that have been debunked in 18 seconds flat ($50 x 5? And a $70 in there too??? WTF.). |

Look, some of those points sound myopic to me. For example, when you talk about the power of HD agmes compared to the SD Wii, you're clearly not speaking about every HDTV owner, nor are you speaking about every gamer. HDTV owners right now aren't really interested in HD programming as a dealbreaker; these casual TV owners are loving their HDTV sets displaying SD signals or only have a lot of SD to watch in the first place. Some of this is true for gamers, is it not?
You might have your Gaffers who can't look at SD gaming anymore now that they've spent time with their next-generation HD-capable consoles, but I don't think that describes the casual gamer very well; there is certainly a large section of gamedom that does not judge so harshly based on visuals, no matter what each camp has claimed in the past. Other factors, be it price or library, have also come into play and will come into play this time around, I'd imagine. Every really successful console has to answer to this casual mass of gamers who don't always ask how that system plugs into their television but what games they can play with that system instead, and the Nintendo Wii need not be precluded from these potential consumers. And let's give the Wii some time, please, before we judge it as a fad. Never mind that there are games besides WiiSports that people can be indoctrinated into after buying this little white hope, but the Wii lineup like WiiSports could become a consistently good-seller of a line that can stretch this out for more than just a holiday season; WiiPlay hasn't done so badly even though the system is otherwise in a post-launch drought, and Nintendo is intent on pushing other WiiNewbie games for the forseeable future, isn't it? And what if third parties are actually willing to try something interesting and new that catches on to people without looking like WiiSports or some other fad? That EA is alrweady throwing the system a break in the form of Boogie may hopefully mean more companies try something novel with their blockbuster franchises or something smart and new. And don't get me started on using James Bond 007 to save your impressive but overpriced system. Last edited by Lo-Volt : 03-27-2007 at 07:23 PM. |
