MS to replace damaged 360 games #1

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/sy...nt-program.htm
Quote:
If, for any reason, you have a damaged Microsoft Xbox 360 disc and like to replace it, please review the information below:

THIS PROGRAM IS GOOD ONLY FOR XBOX 360 CONSOLE OWNERS IN COUNTRIES WHERE XBOX 360 IS SOLD AT AUTHORIZED RETAIL LOCATIONS.

This program only applies to games where Microsoft is the publisher, and is subject to availability. To check and see if your game is available for replacement, please review which Microsoft products currently fall under this program here. Link to Game List Page

You will need to print and complete the program form.
Once the products have been received by Microsoft, please allow four to six weeks for delivery.

The following game titles are currently available for this program:
Crackdown, Fuzion Frenzy 2, Gears Of War, Halo 2, Kameo: Elements of Power, Ninety Nine Nights, Perfect Dark Zero, Project Gotham Racing 3, Viva Piņata, Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged Vol. 1

Note that they'll still ask you 20USD/15EUR/10GBP to replace the disc.
Better than having to buy a whole new game.

I really don't see why they're charging for the service. Shipping fees, sure. But they're obviously making a killing off selling you the same disc twice.

I mean, you do have to turn in your broken disc to get the new one. There can't be more than a dollar or two in actual capital needed.

Wtf, Oblivion is the disc that destroyed my first 360 and they don't have it on the list?!

Not quite, it only took them 3 business days to receive my faulty 360 and return a new one to me, that's an incredible turnaround time and it's +1 for MS.

Not such a great deal for Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged Vol. 1 since the price of that title is $19.99 these days.

When you send in a scratched authentic disc, it seems that they should charge no more than $10 for replacement. :-/

Although I dont expect them to fix it for free (that would be great however), $20 is way too much for a replacement. ALmost 50% of the game price, assuming it's at full retail price. What if you buy a platinum hits game? I'd rather just spend the extra $10 for a new version.

I would think this has more to do with kids using discs as coasters than warped or badly manufactured discs.

Gears of War seems to have a bad print, and will often have inexplicable DREs while the disc remains perfectly intact.

Well the discs aren't scratching themselves, I figured MS was taking responsibility for their 360 shredding my games.

It's not so much that. I had a problem where the faulty drive in my 360 was cracking discs at the centre leading to intermittent loading problems. MS fixed the machine, but refused to do anything about the disc,s accusing me of moving the machine whilst it was on.

This is a general replacement plan. Not MS taking responsibility for the 360 scratching discs for no reason. But Im sure they would replace Microsoft games that were scratched in the 360 as well.

My PGR3 disc looks perfect, but doesn't read.

But I won't be going for this, it makes more sense for me to buy the wheel and get PGR3 for free with it.

I said 'pity Oblivion is not on the list'. Note I didn't say 'why is Oblivion not on the list' as it is stated in the press release - they don't publish it.

Wait, they charge you $20 to replace damaged discs? So if people get their discs chewed up by their consoles, they get to pay extra money? **** MS.

My 360 gives my games 'smudge rings' (best way I could describe it). They all still work, but they require a lot more care and cleaning than I'm used to

I'm am constantly amazed by how pathetic Microsoft is..... They produce a faulty system that ruins discs then charge the consumer $20 USD to replace when it costs them pennies to produce a new dvd disc. It's amazing how a company can cheat people into paying for their screw ups. Then to add insult to injury you have to wait 4-6 weeks for it to arrive. Kudos MS and this where people want to see the game industry going.

I wonder if they'll still be charging $20 for a replacement disk when most of these games hit the Greatest hits status? $20? What a freaking joke.

I heard of that before, like some oily shit, right? maybe someone put alot of oil or grease on the DVD mechanisms and at high speed they splatter on the discs.

This is true. I got a bad copy. If I complain to Epic do you think they'll replace it for free? $20 is kinda lame seeing as the disc is unplayable through no fault of my own.

Just looked at the Epic forums for more info, found a 15 (!) page thread on the issue, and Mark Rein just says that bad prints of Gears of War are not Epic's problem.
