I like the actual art, but yeah, black/red is a much better combination. The logo is harder to make out on the Wii boxart, and the white glow effect to compensate for that just makes it look cheaper.
PS2 version looks the best by far.. white background just doesnt work, looks like he is standing in front of a nuke blast.

All of the PAL boxarts for RE4 knock the shit out of their US and Japan counterparts. Japan's in particular, are so terrible. I'm jealous :(

They've changed some of the trees slightly from the PS2 box and removed one of the birds and moved another one's location.

Here's Japan's boxart from Play-Asia, but I don't know where they got the original image.
Personaly i like the wii version much better. It's more striking.

PAL GCN Box is still the best IMO. Minimalist and classy.
PS2 and Wii boxes are ok though. PS2 one having a lot of trees is a bit lame since since they cut 70% of the trees from that version :D
