When I heard about this game months ago I was wondering if they'd be foolish enough to release as a retail game.

According to the Preview section of the June 2007 Nintendo Power, a remake of the classic Epyx game, Impossible Mission, is coming to Wii via the Shop Channel. The game was announced by developer System 3 several months ago, but this is the first confirmation about how it will be released to Wii owners. It's something Nintendo hinted at a while ago, but this is the first confirmation of a non-Virtual Console title to be released via download. An actual game card of the game will be produced for DS as well.

What happened to the all new 2007 version that was coming out on multi platform?

Hmm... Kinda thought they would kick out the modern virtual console with something more high profile. This is not quite the answer to Geomerty Wars or Flow.

They released a box art for the Wii version not that long ago

auuugh

But yeah, it would certainly make more sense on the Wii Shop Channel. Just like Super Fruit Fall would have..

The plan, as far as I'm aware, is to release a VC version of the game as well as the fully-fledged remake which will come to normal retail.

I think that's the one that they're talking about. It's at least the same developer, I think.

I am curious what the status is on the PS2 version, though.

This is it, Wii version is nearly full priced (:lol), PSP & PS2 versions are cheaper. Not sure about DS.

It may be that they're releasing the original via VC as well.

We'll probably be hearing about Sam & Max pretty soon. They're supposed to be going down the same road.

It's on page 33, at the end of an Impossible Mission DS preview. NP says the following:

System 3 is also planning a Wii version of Impossible Mission that you can download through the Wii Shop Channel.

Random Dev: We're about to put up some new info on an upcoming game we're working on. All clear?
Nintendo: Have you run it through the Nintendo Vagueness Filter© yet?
Random Dev: Oh right, thanks for the heads up. They won't be able to extract anything from this press release! (Laughing in background)

Hope it's cheaper to get a liscense to release original content on the Wii than it does on XBLA

Didn't screenshots of this game show up recently?

If it was reasonably priced i'd definitely buy it.

They should port New Super Mario Bros from DS and have it as a downloadable title.

ouch,

i cant wait for BC on the wii then,

can only be trully faithful if they make you stare at the tape loader multi color seisure induction screen for 30 mins before the title screen kicks in,

This is good news. I'm buying the DS version, and thought a retail Wii version was just silly. Having it as a download makes perfect sense though.

This would also pretty much confirm that their other game in development, Last Ninja Series, will be delivered in the same way. Which is my most anticipated game of 2007.

I hope for System 3s sake that their 'new' stuff becomes popular. Would be great to see one of the most popular studios of the 80s to come back into the spot light.

I kind of wish the whole "non VC" game aspect of Wii kicked off with a more intriguing title, but I'm glad to hear that it's actually kicking off in some regard. If anything, a lot the smaller games (like someone noted with Super Fruit Fall) would have made sense from the beginning to be put through the Wii Ware option. I'd hope Line Rider goes through this as well on Wii as I can see some sense in it being a retail title on the DS, but I'm not sure if I'd pay for it at retail for Wii.

And by the by, that online Tanks game coming to DS which looks a lot like Tanks in WiiPlay would have been awesome as a smaller downloadable title, especially since the DS game is going to have online multiplayer.
