Their gonna have a hell of time filling the position with this qualification. Any Phantasy Star devs move to France recently?

It seems like they are still using Unreal 2.5 instead of developing a Wii engine from the ground up. Thats pretty shitty IMO.

Red Steel 2 was confirmed by an Ubi job posting a while back, now they want an online programmer for Wii specifically to work at the Red Steel studio? You'd have to work pretty hard to not come to this conclusion.

I remember that announcement. That one was indicating Red Steel 2. This one here doesn't point more toward RS2. Ubi are making multiple games in all their major studios.

Not really a surprise since everybody is having the guildelines and docs to make online games now.

There was hints waaaaaay back when (well, 5 months ago I guess) that RS2 was going to be online. It's nice to see it confirmed, though its odd they havent really started that part of it yet. I guess the last 5 months have been adding content/tweaking controls.

Can't wait, RS was underrated, glad it sold well though.
It's not like anyone should be surprised at a Fall release though, considering Rabbids already has one coming.

FYI, for this into this sort of stuff...

Tom Salta's OST for Red Steel is now available for download on iTunes.

It's frickin awesome, by the way. Should check out the samples, even if you never played or don't like the game.

The Red Steel promotional website I participated in was late in sending me my DS Lite prize, so they gave me (and a few others, including Smiles and Cries) the soundtrack signed by Salta as a free gift.

I'd conclude that Red Steel 2 is likely to be MUCH better.

Reasons:

- Red Steel was rushed, highly flawed and poorly put together, but showed potential.
- Red Steel is a highly successful game in the market.
- Even if RS wasn't rushed, they could still improve on the previous version through experiments and working with feedback, etc.
- Red Steel was working with a brand new control scheme and lots of experience has been gained since.
- Red Steel 2 will benefit from inspiration on how to control a FPS from games like MP3 and Elebits.
- Wii is likely to have surpassed Ubisoft's expectations considerably, and thus a high-budget and more effort will likely be put in Red Steel 2.

This doesn't mean it'll be an amazing game though, but it should be at least good, I hope.

I doubt the second will sell well. The first benefitted from being a launch title with little competition in terms of mature games. I'd expect the second to do quite subpar

A higher budget than Red Steel, which already reportedly had a budget of $12,000,000?

If it's almost the same game, it will sell bad. If it's actually a very good game with a great online mode it will sell very well.

I mean, katana's, guns, online?! If it's good it will be a huge hit.

That whole thing was pretty terrible. There's no way so many games magically get "lost" in the mail.

I thought Red Steel was one of the worst games I've played in years. I WANTED to like it, but I just couldn't do it. The aiming would randomly jump around, the turning was slow, the acting was horrendous (and not even the so-bad-it's-good horrendous), etc... The graphics were actually kind of nice though.

Just take time on it. Fall 2008 sounds lovely. Under the shitty graphics, and god forsaken controls there was a good game crying to be freed. I have faith in RS2

Hmm, so in the end they ported it over? Or perhaps Epic's been busy also on the Nintendo side?

Why not give Beyond Good & Evil a shot on the Wii? They already have a great engine sitting right there for it, make a sequel off of it. It seems like Ubi is just going to let that franchise die :P

Ubi's using Unreal 2.5. GearBox is currently porting 3 to the Wii. Epic refuses to do it themselves.

After the Rabbids sequel, I bet Ancel's going to put that Jade engine to good use ;)

Sounds good to me, although I bet that 2.5 is better suited to the hardware.

Wow. Didn't know that was true (if it is). It doesn't show, but even with less money than that, I'm sure they can make a game which seems like it has more.

Likely, mainly because it's for HD and not SD. I think they should have just updated 2.5 to do better visuals.

Anyway, I'm interested in Red Steel 2. I know the first one wasn't that great, but if they get the controls down this time, it'll be a lot better.

Click. It states that the game cost 10 Million € to make, or approximately $12.5 million dollars. Or to put it more interestingly, it cost more to make than Gears of War.
