Weird timing. If they launch it then, it certainly implies they won't drop in price around the Halo launch. If so I think MS is making a very, very big mistake. It is in Europe where MS needs to make some smart moves - and the Elite sure as hell isn't one, especially at that price. The US launch and subsequent decline in sales three months in a row are proof of that.

Some of us really want the answer to when this is going to happen. I plan on buying a 360 towards the end of the year, and I thought 65nm architecture was originally going to be part of the elites.

I honestly think 65nm is a long way off even if they start manufacturing them soon. Old stock has to clear out first which could take months in certain parts of the world. In many areas 360s manufactured a year ago are still being sold.

Maybe because the stockholders don't want the Xbox division to lose $4 billion like it did with the original Xbox? Not saying I like the high price, but I can understand why they are doing it.

Yeah, but as evidenced by the latest NPD's, these things aren't selling. Would the profit margins on these be much greater than the regular $399 model?

Do you know what's fantastic? Just how stupid the decision to even produce this console in the first place was. We'll look back and never have a kind word to say about the Elite; it's done nothing but harm Microsoft, and confusing people with a more expensive version of a console in a market which gains pretty much nothing from a large hard drive and really doesn't have huge HDTV usage as it is...it's all completely misguided. The mentality at Microsoft is so tech driven that they're ****ing themselves over trying to maintain some perceived equality with the PS3, when the average consumer couldn't give two shits.

Seriously, WE DON'T EVEN HAVE A VIDEO MARKETPLACE IN EUROPE.

The 360 has a perceived price-point, it is just stupid beyond comprehension how they try to set it higher. In no way does the higher price match what you're actually getting for it.

MS is already not doing well in EU, how does a higher price point ix this?

I wonder if the Video Marketplace will launch in Europe around the same time aswell.

I mean there isn't much need for the 120GB HDD if there ain't shit to d/l apart from game demos unless ofcourse you like to have a shitload of demos on tap ready to play at any time.

The pricing is a complete ****in screw job as usual. I think I'll get a lovely 160GB Western Digital Passport for 105€ instead, hook it up to the 360 and then download all the sweet 720p wmv rips out there.

I'm sure lots of people that have "av gear" love having a console with HDMI and a large hard drive. But the Elite's necessity is unproven in the US market; in Europe it's not even close to being relevant.

Might help a little, we europeans have been trained to look for HD-Ready logo (incl. HDMI) TV sets. Some might have hold off their 360 purchase because it doesnt have HDMI

It doesn't "effect" me, but I don't think the market in Europe is ready for this kind of console, and having a more expensive version of the 360 out just makes the cheaper versions look worse.

This sends a really bad messege as far as dropping the price.

They should have launched the Elite at the Halo 3 launch in a bundle for maximum damage.

What sickens me is that we people just buy everything because its cheap. If Wii was 600, would anyone really think it was worth it? It's a damn shame that prices controls the sales, when it should be the game.

Maybe games in general are just nowhere near good enough for the casuals to matter?

Yeah, I was just thinking the Elite is at least $200 cheaper than the PS3 in Europe. So it's still much cheaper.

I think that's just attributed to the economical landscape. It all works out when you factor in all the negatives and positives of the difference in the US and European economies.

Live in germany, but I was under the impression 2 years warranty is europe-wide (dont know about UK).

It is not a real 2 years warranty, but if you dont have obviously damaged your console you usually get it replaced without many questions asked (thats probably especially true for the 360. After the first 6 month, the customer has to prove the defect was there from the day of the purchase. And MS probably isnt eager to fight any lawsuits regarding this)
