here's another tip... you can change the camera view from NEAR to FAR if you need more viewing space, check the options. it helps a ton, especially when you're surrounded by the centipede critters or the annoying cannons that fire purple bullets at you.

there's a boost meter on the far bottom left of the screen. in order to boost again, it has to be fully charged. it's unlimited use as long as you have a charged boost meter.

I like how the controls try to achieve a simple layout, not as simple as flow, but as simple as you can get. Which is what makes this game effective, on top of the insane action and graphics of course...

I had one drop out during a miracle run. Sucked. But I'm not about to be all upset, just more hyper vigilant. But I do think they should address this, if at all possible. I don't usually have drops either, 3 since I picked this one up in December.

Well, I'm not the best player here, but here are a few minor tips:

1. Boost!
Two major uses, escape, and bonus gathering. I'm less inclined to use the bomb because almost every attack is escapable. It's the recharging of boost is when I feel the bomb is needed. Also, you don't have to shoot rocks to gain their bonuses, you can boost into a few of those rocks if aligned correctly.

2. Let the Bonuses come to you
If you move near the bonuses, they will follow you. This will make it easy for you to align the point bonuses for a boost.

3. Fight Fast
Most of your score comes from bonus points accumulated by completing the stage quickly. Couple that with a multiplier bonus, and you can get millions at the end of each stage in bonus points alone.

4. Boost Nuke
You can do boost and nuke at the same time. Not super useful in my opinion, but it clears out a lot of the enemies so you won't have to deal with it later

5. Balancing Weapon Upgrades
You really don't need to upgrade the rock smasher (green weapon) to the max on the first planet. I'd rather concentrate on the gold melter (red) since you're going to use it a lot for the boss of planet 1, and almost exclusively for planet 2. I'd also give the ice breaker (blue) some upgrades because you will need them against a very annoying breed of enemies on planet 2.

6. Planet Rock (Don't Stop)
Certain Weaknesses for the rocks of each planet:

Planet 1: Green weapon
Planet 2: Red weapon, little bit of Blue
Planet 3: Blue weapon, red weapon in the later phases
Planet 4: More green, but uses all three weapons
Planet 5: Uses all three weapons

Man, when you start stalling out in this game your score just stops increasing. Made it to 60,000,000 and then started choking and could only manage another 5 over the next 4 phases.

My PSN is alske. I'll add everyone that's put up their nick in this thread when I get home tonight.

For 7euros this game really has amazing value. Lots of features, depth, graphics, well developed, love the stat tracking. The price is beneath what you'd expect these days, making it even better, love that!

On planet two you have these round circling spaceships, I think that with the orange beam weapon you can kind of lock on to them and elongate your beam and try to get other spaceships in the crossfire. I haven't managed to do this quite well, but is it an effective tactic?

I am addicted to twirling the gold melter...this seems to get em all at once.

I guess I haven't upgraded the ice breaker enough, because I've been finding the rock smasher more effective on planet two, fully upgraded.

PS3 developers take note: check out the left thumbstick control for SSHD. Note that they greatly shrunk the huge deadzone that is typically present. Do this on your own titles.

+1 Housemarque

Awesome game, perfectly implemented.

To alleviate BlueTooth drops, you can always plug the controller in. I have a 6 ft. USB I have to play with sometimes so my controller can charge so that works well.

so you can see approximately how many copies this game has sold by looking at the high score screen for arcade mode.

it was at like 4000 last night.

Actually, the first boss is weak to the ice-breaker. The second boss is weak to the gold melter. In world 1 I recommend upgrading the rock smasher to where it is shooting quickly in a small 'v' (about 4-5 upgrades) and then concentrating on the ice-breaker. In world 2 get nothing but gold melter if you can.

Another couple tips, you can boost through the bosses without being hurt. This makes maneuvering into a good position much easier and allows you to take them down faster. Also, on the 2nd boss try to be inside of his arms when he wraps them into a circle. You only have to dodge a couple of streams and you can continue to blast the boss; boost out if you get in trouble.

Yeah, TTP posted this earlier - just use the same colored weapon against enemies in that color, or enemies that have highlights in that color.

i'm not that crazy about the robotron-alikes that have become the official genre of console download services, but sshd is a lot of fun. really hectic, unusually nuanced for a game of this type, and awfully nice to look at -- i love the way the big asteroids break apart.

I must be hopeless at this game since I've only gotten 1,800,000 or so as my high score. Even so, this game really is quite addictive and I expect I will improve. I thought I would be more into calling all cars, but this game has terrific replay value without having to play against other humans.

I also bought Geometry Wars via Steam and thus far Super Stardust is kicking its ass all over the place. Partly that's because the PC controls are pretty crap via keyboard & mouse but also because SSDHD is just so purty and so intense too.

As for tips, I've found Boosting through the large rocks nets quite a few points since you're basically hitting all the points in one go.

Truly awesome game.
