You get two controllers and two games, seems like a good pack even at 600 euros.

€599 = $825 (USD)

On the other hand its around £400. I assume it'll be £425, the old price point. Which, with two games and two controllers, is a better deal than we were getting.

I'm only a part time worker, part time student so it's gonna be £350 or lower before I bite.

I wonder if stores will continue their own deals on PS3 or not. If they do, you could get some great value. I know some stores already bundling a game of your choice with the system for free and/or cables, bd movies etc. Hopefully that continues and they don't just discontinue those deals completely in favour of this 'sony-sanctioned' one.

As for pricedrops..I think it's inevitable by year's end. But whether it'll actually be as good value as this could be questionable depending on what games you want, and if they revert to a bundleless system!

Two controllers? I'm still with one waiting for the damn RumbleAxis. Something tells me that only if Europeans stop buying PS3s there'll be a price cut. Until then we'll keep getting screwed.

So and what about the standalone PS3 ? The price has to come down. No one will buy it at the same price point as the bundle.

I think it will stick at the same price if there will be a price-drop it will be a retailers initiative.

Wait, if this pack applies to all of Europe, what about just a single ps3?
So if i go buy a ps3 with no games its 600, and if i go buy a ps3 starter pack its still 600?
Price drop?

I don't think there will be a standalone for now. You buy a PS3, you get this.

I'd expect the standalone to come back later in the year with a pricedrop, once they've moved some inventory.

The stand alone is already on discount in nearly all stores, £399.99 plus a free game (I think WHsmith had this deal. GAME are still determined to sell it at £425 for some unkonwn reason).

maybe you have to register your new ps3 to get the games and controller form sony like the casino royale blu-ray - if you have bad luck, you must wait 3 month to get the stuff.

Well costums would screw you up with tax rates if it got retained. Where I live it's around 21% of the full price of the package.

Slim PS2 costs like £70 here. No big deal.

And import PS3s don't require a step down converter. Just use a kettle plug.

Nice bundle, although they should really, really bundle an HDMI cable with that. Too many people just use what comes with the box...

Doesn't adding £70 to the cost of a US import pretty much make it as expensive as a UK model? Plus of course you then can't play UK blu-rays.

So, anyway, assuming this is still £425, are they going to 'do a Microsoft' and send all the early adopters an extra controller and two games?

Unless you were not planning to buy games for PS3 or 2nd controller.

No what I meant is if you want to play PS2 games, there is already a PS2 console that is cheap enough to do that.

My future PS3 purchase will be for PS3 games (and BluRay). I have a PS2 for PS2 games. Plus it is light enough to dump into a suitcase to bring along on boring trips.

Even bigger pic if it wasn't already confirmed...

Now lets see...it doesn't say that its a limited edition anywhere, I think SCEE might be taking the same approach as with PSP. That is, announcing a ****ing lot of SKUs

Remember PSP...core pack, value pack, giga pack...and prices changed if you went to different stores.

I can't see stores picking this bundle and not changing other SKUs prices. 60GB will probably go for 499, and those with 1 game (there are many official bundles here in Spain, Resistance and Motorstorm everywhere plus even some exclusive to chains (Virtua Tennis 3 and F1)) will probably go for 529 or so. Again, it'll probably depend on the stores and how they see demand after people see this new bundle which obliterates other bundles value.

They flat out denied this yesterday. I am shocked, I guess they need to sell all those redundant SIXAXIS controllers for a future announcement.

It sounds kind of tempting, only problem is I don't want to be stuck with two non-rumble controllers when they'll probably release a new and improved version of the sixaxis soon.

One of the big german retailers (Mediamarkt, I think) has a "movie PS3 bundle", which is normal ps3 set + BD remote +2 BD movies for 600Euro. Guess it will become even cheaper after the price cut.

Mediamarkt already has a similar bundle at 600€, so this is not really an improvement for Germans, at least.

This is terrific value but I actually would think a price decrease to 499euro (even with that being less value for consumers) would push more systems. I guess they need to get rid of a few controllers.
