Greatest SNES Multiplayer Games? #1

I just got my Super Nintendo working and am looking for good multiplayer games to play. Here's my preliminary list:

Super Bomberman 1 or 2 - which is better? I know there were several more for the Super Famicom. Are these much better? If so, where could I get them for a reasonable price?
Contra 3
Tetris Attack
Zombies Ate My Neighbors (based on glowing recommendations)
Turtles in Time - what are some other good beat em' ups?
Super Smash TV
Joe & Mac
Sunset Riders
Mystical Ninja
Which of the Pocky & Rocky games are good?

Right now all I own are RPGs and the Mario games, so I'm open to pretty much anything else, even imports if they require no knowledge of japanese beyond selecting menus. I prefer games with small learning curves, and I am not really interested in fighters.

I had more fun with 2-player Super Mario Kart than any of the sequels.

Also, there are a number of good sports games, though the EA stuff is pretty crappy on the SNES. Super Tennis was amazingly good and ahead of its time.

Ken Griffey Jr. Major League Baseball. Still the greatest baseball gave ever to this day.

EDIT: Oh, and Turtles in Time.

Of the games yet to be mentioned, let me throw in my lot with 1 of EA's hockey games (multi-tap support, too!).

I think it peaked with '93 (but it always felt better to me on the Genesis, although this one of the sports that was pretty close between the two platforms).

I only really ever played one game on my SNES - Nintendo World Cup. I am, however, willing to vouch for its greatness as a multiplayer experience.

* My mistake - NES game. Observation stands, though.

BWAHAHAHA. To be fair, I was going to go with NHLPA '93, if only because Lemieux was a demi-god in it as opposed to his brilliant-if-human self in NHL '94.

Didn't they take out some of the fighting and blood in '94?

I'm going to say, "Yes," (maybe only in the Super Nintendo version), but, again, that would only be a net positive in my book. Few things are worse than seeing Jagr fall in slow motion to the ice after a check with the horrid "AHHHHWWWW" crowd gasp sound effect.

Well, you already got Zombies, Turtles, and Mystical Ninja, so that leaves Secret of Mana and more importantly Kirby Super Star.

Saturday Night Slam Masters was an excellent multiplayer wrestling game. A few friends and I would rotate renting the game years ago. I'm sure we could have purchased it 2 times over.

The "AHHHHWWWW" was classic after an injury...especially if it was a star player you knocked out. I believe Gary Bettman had something to do with the blood removal and the fighting decrease in the game....at least on the latter for sure he did...

Forza, was that "sure" as in "the conjecture makes sense, therefore it happened" or is that actually the truth? If so, I'll need to add something else to my list of why he was terrible for hockey.

I'm pretty sure that Bettman had a lot to do with the limited fighting (was there even any in NHL '94?) back then. I distinctly remember reading an article where Bettman didn't want to glamorize fighting in the EA game and that he asked for it to mimic that of the real game. ie 1.1 fights per game or something like that...

Seconded. It's pure baseball fun! The characters design, the animations and simple pitching/batting/fielding make this game our favorite mulitplayin' game on the SNES!

But really, Super Bomberman and Mario Kart are the best multiplayer games ever. So many good memories.

Turtles, Zombie, Kart, Secret of Mana, F-zero have all been mentioned.

There was a mecha game called Metal Warriors which never really seemed to garnish much popularity but I happened to love. There were 6 very different mechas which were used to great effect in the solid but terribly long and difficult single player adventure mode, and it also had a pretty good multiplayer duel mode.

Shame this never turned into a series; it had much potential.

Edit: oooooh, UNIRACERS! That game was awesome.

Metal Warriors is the best competitive multiplayer SNES game. Such a fun title.
