Hudson considering a new Star Soldier game on Wii? #1

http://www.16shot.jp/blog/archives/2.../post_665.html

I don't claim to know the first thing about reading Japanese, but a couple small sites are reporting that this blog from a Hudson employee entry claims that Hudson is currently considering a new Star Soldier game for Wii, Star Soldier R. Can anyone confirm this?

It will be a collection of 4 Star Soldier minigames. You waggle to fire, navigate with nunchuck.

He said he doesn't know when or if the game will ever come out, but maybe if you make enough noise it will. (Star Soldier R for the Wii, that is)

I'm not reading it very thuroughly, but it sounds like a caravan mode for it has already been made, and they've been using it at events or something.

Pretty much spot on from what I gathered. During Hudson's Caravan Summer Tour (the one with the big yellow van), the game is supposed to be playable albeit only in its Caravan mode. Based on the response and the demand during the touring event, Hudson may indeed be looking at publishing a full title.

And for those that care about that sort of thing - the Classic controller is also specifically mentioned as being functional with the game. So the hopes (or fears) of a motion controlled vertical shooter are set aside - at least for another day.

Oh hells ya. I would buy that so hard.

And while they're at it, where's my compilation of TG-16 remakes from last gen(Star Soldier, Bonk, Lode Runner, Adventure Island).

If it means a Star Soldier R release I'll secretly buy SSS and Soldier Blade on all my friends' Wiis. They'll thank me later.

to reiterate: if it's at Caravan it means it's for competition which also means it's not guaranteed to be released at retail. not that hudson is averse to making wii bux

Does the post say why they might be making another one? Because of high Star Soldier virtual console sales or something?

It would be neat if high virtual console sales of various games convinced companies to resurrect long dead game franchises.

Wait, is Star Soldier R just the GC remake plus waggle, or is it all new?

Wii seems to be attracting some decent 2D shooters early on... Crow, Blast Works, GeoWars Galaxies, possibly Radio Allergy and now this.

You know that Star Soldier's been rereleased for the DC, GC, and other systems within the last 5 years right? It's not like the franchise was dead or anything.

It was GC, PS2 & PSP... no DC version iirc. I'm just wondering if this is the same game, or something different?

I knew about the DC one but not the GC one, but yeah should have rephrased that better, I wasn't exactly referring to Star Soldier when I said long dead. I was actually thinking of the 8 player battle Lode Runner game. We haven't had a Lode Runner game in a long time, and certainly not a battle 8 player one like what we recently got.

Star Soldier R is a new game, but it is only available right now as a 2 minute caravan/time attack mode for Hudson's summer event. The game does not have waggle controls at all.

Hudson's is considering a full title based on the response from R.

To be fair though, the GCN/PS2/PSP versions were remakes of previous games in the series right down to the enemy patterns. We haven't had a "new" Star Soldier since 98.

Nothing truer but sadly almost impossible (Enix-produced Treasure game published in US and Europe by Nintendo...too much licensing involved for a sequel; not considering Treasure rarely make "sequels")
