Betrayalton: Core drops $20, Premium $50, Elite $30 Confirmed
#1
![]() MS has ceased trying to make sense. Unless the HDD has dropped in price or a memory card is included, the Core pricing scheme makes no sense, and they've somehow managed to make it more of a 'tard pack. The difference between the Elite and Premium is now greater than it once was. Wow. |

Maybe Microsoft is trying to clearance out (to make room for the Falcon design) the version with the most stock the fastest?

Not genuinely interested in rational console debate.

Anyone could have told you any price cut before the 65nm would have been "wacky" at best.

I like how Shane Kim and Peter Moore spent several interviews explaining how ~$249 was the "sweet spot" they were trying to get the 360 down to in order to drive mass-market adoption. And now they drop one SKU $50....but not the Core, when the entire reason the Core exists is to reach that pricepoint and thus, market.
Can someone explain how this could make a tiny bit of sense? Even a little? Microsoft marketing has officially gone batshit insane. |

Seems like a temporary 'small incentive' price cut to counteract the PS3.
I still think a real price cut is on the way later in the year. It has to be, surely. |

From a percentage perspective it actually makes sense. I think people expecting the core to drop by 50 were pretty crazy. I knew the Elite would go to $449 or 429 as well. And if nobody is buying the core anyway, who cares how much it costs? Certainly not Microsoft.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

Premium will be the sweet spot and I imagine still the SKU that sells the most for them. By Black Friday the Core will be $249, premium $299 and Elite $399.
Not that surprised they are keeping the core however. Maybe there is a memory card pack in. $350 for the premium right before the major hits will do them well. |

Maybe they dont want to get slaughtered at the same price point as the Wii?

not surprising, since this was basically revealed in the other price drop thread. but it just further underscores the notion of them not actually wanting to sell cores right now. they lose too much on them.
with falcon, you will see a marketing and pricing shift. |
