I'm sure Nintendo will not be looking to simply make a DS with improved graphics, and a motion sensor is probably one of the best logistical options to take.
Motion sensing and touch screen? Would be hard to pull off well... and how would you keep your eyes focused on the screen when moving the handheld all over the place?Originally Posted by ksamedi
I think its going to be a DS with motion sensing, dual touch support and dual touchscreens, that would be the ultimate toy for Nintendo to play with.
Here's what a little reading can do for your credibility:

I agree.That's what I always thought Nintendo's next step would be.Originally Posted by «þ»

You never know what Nintendo comes up with, but you dont have to use them both at the same time.Originally Posted by kay

I remember reading some interviews about that when the DS was originally announced.

Yeah, I was wondering what that was all about. For a second it was thinking Wii Portable, but that's too big of a scoop to give to edge and/or to keep silent.Originally Posted by pswii60
Interestingly, Edge's 'next month' page shows a Nintendo-embossed Wii shaped carrying case hinting at some kind of portability to the Wii, whatever it actually means we'll find out next month.
We'll see at the beginning of september.
Basically, I'm not so sure it's a good idea--but I'm willing to be proven wrong.

Oh, but this is degenerating into a cat thread, so, um...

something about this post took me back to the days before DS had online. Nintendo filed some patent related to mesh networks or something, and fanboys were speculating that Nintendo had a plan to get every DS connected near 100% of the time simply through proximity to other DSes. It was precious.
But back to the topic, Nintendo would be foolish to do anything undermining the DS right now. I doubt we'll see a DS-successor (not a redesign) before E3 2009.

Well really, it's not like it would be a first for them. They've done games like that going back to the GBC.Originally Posted by Zynx
If the screen is on the same device that has motion sensing, it's pretty useless - it'll be rather hard on the eyes except for the rare games where it's appropriate to shift everything on the screen in counter-response to the motion.

yeah I remember reading something a few years ago that DS originally had a tilt capability, and IIRC, it was cut out because of production cost, but your memory might be better than mine, it may have been cut due to battery consumption.
edit, here's the article and quote I was thinking of:
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpag...=&pagewanted=3
"To keep costs down, Mr. Miyamoto said, some features were left out of the DS. Maybe next time, he said, he will be able to include a tilt sensor for gyroscopic control."
