Played a bit more Don Paccin. Still can't really tell what's going on but for the most part you blow up popcorn and slightly larger enemies, they drop gems of varying sizes that boost your shot, then you go into a boss battle where your robot things attack the boss (automatically?).
If you defeat the boss you get fuel, if not your shot resets to base level and you just continue on and go through another phase of regular enemies until you attack the boss again. I just ran out after failing to beat the boss the first time, from there it looks like you can pay for more fuel or something to continue in the level, or just get a game over and restart the level for free.
It seemed like you get the robot thingys after you beat levels. Hell if I know what to do from there but it kind of looks like you can equip them in different sets and pick which to take into a level.
...and I still haven't seen too many enemy bullets. It'll be interesting to see how this game is at later levels but I'm not sure I'll be able to get there without an english version. Depending how the game progresses I'm not sure I'd want to. It seems like it might be a slow grind, but actually knowing what the hell is happening might make it interesting.

Sounds like CAVE x Puzzle & Dragons; I'll check it out over Thanksgiving weekend. Got way too many pad clones to play already lol
Amazing! I can't watch it from work :3 but I'll do it asap.Originally Posted by iconoclast

Played a bit of Dopacchin this morning. Like I thought it's a clone of Puzzle & Dragons; in fact the general framework down to menu layout is near identical. Just replace the dragons with robots and the puzzles with kusoge shmup. There's an overview of PAD mechanics here, and much of the stuff on the page directly transfers over to Donpacchin: http://pad.wikia.com/wiki/Game_Mechanics . Then go play PAD instead because this game is missing a lot of the polish that PAD built up over the course of 18 months.
I was able to play without making a Mobage account. Maybe they did make an account for me and I just didn't notice.
Google Play region locks apps by default. Android users can still sideload the app onto your phone provided you have access to the APK (which usually you can Google).
IAP consists of laundering your yen into Quartz, which can then be used to refill your AP (stamina) gauge, refuel, or roll Rare Gacha. Non-IAP players only get access to Medal Gacha (which probably only gives complete shit), Gold Gacha (costs 1 Gold ticket and seems to give mostly shit), and Silver Gacha (costs 1 Silver ticket and for some reason gives better stuff than Gold Gacha).
As for references to other CAVE games thus far I've seen the stage 1 boss from DOJ, a beetle from Mushimesama, and I think some Ketsui thing.
It's hellaciously stupid that the game locks you to one axis of movement. Part of what makes PAD fun to play in the endgame is that it rewards raw skill; by dumbing down danmaku you lose the ability to let the expanded audience grow into hardcore players. Also the art style is vomit inducing.

reduced to garbage

lets hope that this is yet another attempt to get a budget together for a new arcade shooter.

Dem IAP monies. Cave knows what it's doing.Originally Posted by SOME-MIST

I wouldn't touch those phone games with a barge pole but I'm secretly hoping CAVE are putting some of the money into making that multiplayer console shmup we kept on hearing about in interviews last year.
Just think of the possibilities of a CAVEd up twinkle star sprites.

Was there ever anything released worthwhile on the Wii (and not something like Ikaruga via GameCube BC)?
Cave-wise, nah. Might want to check the general shooter thread (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=387185) if you're just looking for Wii shooters (my vote is Shikigami no Shiro III, there isn't a lot else imo).
Might as well ask shmup (shoot to the core) GAF since CAVE hasn't, but off the top of my head... milestone shooting collection 2, castle of shikigami 3, and if you're into rail shooters.. Sin and Punishment: Star Successor
Appreciate the responses. Guess it goes to show how much I know about the genre despite enjoying it quite a bit (not realizing Cave was its own specific thing). But I'll take a look and see.
I want my Don Paccin!
Looks like it is going to be right up my alley!

Started playing Mushihimesama Futari again. Now playing Black Label Maniac, gonna try how close I can get to a 1CC on that mode. Holy shit I love this game, still my favorite Cave title. I could play this forever and never get bored.
I've been also playing Saidaioujou. Super awesome game as well. The difficulty gives me those DOJ feels. Never have gotten past the mid-boss on stage 3 in Arcade HD, but I'm improving. Playing this game has made me better in Futari also.

Quick and dirty Donpaccin tutorial
Seems to me like getting high scores revolves around balancing EXP gauge fillup (for shot upgrades) and maximizing your gem counter (at 100) before you enter attack phase.
