Because most of the same complaints could be lodged at it, yet most of GAF (myself included) thinks it's the best game ever? :(

But since you haven't played it, nevermind. The comparison is lost on you. :(

i didn't say it was the best game ever...

in fact when i wrote a review for it, i gave it a 7.5 :P not exactly "greatest game ever" material...

Like Trusty Bell, they must make the name safe for NA consumption. More syllables = more win.

It really, really is. Bumpy Trot has character. You're like, whoa, Bumpy Trot? What the hell is that? Then you look at it and it has these cool robot dudes. Except no it doesn't, because that cover is fucking atrocious. You can't even tell what this game is by that cover. Is this Singstar or a robot game? Move the robots up front, call it Bumpy Trot, instant win. Goofy names work, people. Look how well Katamari Damacy did! Steambot Chronicles is a boring generic title on a crappy cover.

Cool, the first was very interesting, but the execution was far from perfect imo. A sequel is much wanted though

Except the full title of the Japanese game is "Junk Romance Great Action Bumpy Trot," which is still the greatest title of all time.

Great!
Really liked the first, and with the sequel coming to the PS3, hopefully it wont have the same problems the first had with its graphic engine (altho it was so because that engine sucked, not because of the console, so they could still put out something with slowdowns and stuff... I sure hope not tho!).

Here are some screens from the PSP Bumpy Trot Battle Tournament:

http://www.the-magicbox.com/0709/game070917d.shtml

Irem announced Bumpy Trot: Vehicle Battle Tournament [Steambot Chronicles: Vehicle Battle Tournament] for PSP, a battle action game based on the Bumpy Trot series. In this game you battle with other trot vehicles from around the world, there will be 1-on-1 and melee battles, you can earn money to customize and upgrade the parts of your trot vehicles. There are also various quests which you can take in the town, and earn money to remodel your vehicles.

Hopefully the PS3 game will at least look nice, as far as everything else it can be the same as the PS2 game I don't mind

This isn't an RPG. It's a mech combat adventure game.

Steambot chronicles is an very good game, which tried to apply the gta open endness to a 100% Japanese traditional game. It had its fair share of flaws (urgh @ the mech controls) but it was incredibly charming, and conceptually talking more ambitious than your usual game. Had it been occidental, the critic would have been all over it.
