Both of the discs in my LE were loose and scratched up. Not horribly scratched, but still. They're working fine so far; let's hope it stays that way.

It's unbelievable and inexcusable that MS/Bungie (who handles packaging?) would ship the LEs like this. I mean, c'mon, this is Halo 3 we're talking about, one of the biggest (if not the biggest) game releases ever.

All they had to do was use normal disc holders (the ones in the LE are different and don't work well at all).

They are Australian prices. EB will most likely retail Assassin's Creed for $120AUD. Anyone with common sense will buy it from Play-Asia for $60AUD.

Only circular scratches around the rings would make it not work. Shallow perpendicular scratches are nothing to worry about.

Btw, if the disk doesn't work, we did have like 10 threads about it.

Well, I have no idea who would have approved the design for the LE case.. got mine tonight and the discs fall out incredibly easily. I have no idea how this passed any sort of quality control.

Good news is that the game plays fine and is only minorly scratched.

My essentials disc has this bizarre scratch pattern on the center but everything works great so far. The game disc had very minor issues, and that's all that really matters. Either way, the design is horrible.

My Game Disc was out of the nub when I opened it, so I was like "shit". Fortunately, it was pristine, as was the other discs. The only problem was that I cut the plastic sleeve a tad with my pocketknife when I opened it. Oops.

Report:

Game disc loose, microscopic scratches. (had to hold them to the light to see; nothing nearly as bad as the photos)

Essentials disc in place, but somehow it was in worse shape than the Game disc.

Yeah I noticed this also when I first opened up the game about two hours ago. Thought it was simply a problem exclusive to me but I guesssss not. Sucks for those whose discs are scratched to hell and unreadable. Mine worked fine and there were no scratches.

Eep. What a mess... but it could have been worse.

We had two people return their LEs for others tonight, but... the replacements were damaged. We eventually wound up swapping out a regular edition disc for the second customer (who was very nice about it, considering the circumstances).

I wound up asking people as I let them in (four at a time) whether they had pre-ordered the LE and told them about the issue up-front. As fate would have it, the LE is what the store manager ordered-- and he didn't want to know if his was scratched or not.

Great launch (we sold well over 100 units across the three SKUs), but wow... this is a black eye on MS, no matter who is at fault here.

Initially had an LE, checked it out immediately. Scratched like an old rental. Returned it and went with a regular, saved $10 and got a pristine disc (normally taken for granted).

Took me 3 tries, but finally got a LE w/o any loose discs or scratches :D Play N Trade guy was super cool about giving me LE's to open and look at, even with the huge line. Kudos to them :)

That a game of this calibur could have a problem like this, is fucking ridiculous, really. Well, Microsoft always has to have at least one hiccup for their big launches :)

Can't wait to play it! Well, as soon as I play some more TF2 first :lol

My Austrian LE just arrived and both discs were sitting tight in their holders. No scratches, no nothing. The whole package also made a travel from Innsbruck to here by Austrian postal service.

I so can't wait to get home.

Here at Tampa's Best Buy LE were all like that.

Me and my friend got to the car and I got the excellent idea of checking discs, they severely scratched. We went back to the store and there was a guy there also waiting for a response for the same problem. This dude works for BB and together with another dude who works there and was on shift they came up with the idea of trading the scratched disks of LE with non scratched disks of regular editions.

The label on the disk is different but besides that it's the same stuff.

So me, my friend and this dude got our LE with pristine regular edition game disk. The other extra disk on our LE was not that at scratched, very little so everything is fine by me.

Ya my discs were okay even though the games disc was bouncing around loose, the dust jacket however was all melted and shitty on the back. It looks like someone stored it close to a heater or something.
Oh ya, and I had to stand in line at the EB for 1.5 hours to get it, there must have benn 400 people.

This swapping discs for the regular version isn't acceptable to me. Hopefully they don't offer that when I pick it up in the morning. I'm a collector so having the different disc art is a big deal to me.

I think if anything, it proves that Microsoft admits there is a problem rather than speculation of what Microsoft thinks of the situation.

edit: discs work and all, ie they're not unreadable, but I'm sure I'll keep blaming the scratches for every single hiccup in the game, I'm definitely sending this crap to M$ once I beat the game.

This thread needs more pictures of scratched discs and sad faces.

I've cancelled my online preorder and I'm just gonna pick it up in store tomorrow. I'm not going to risk fucking around with a returns system, I'll open in right in store and check.

Walked into Target around midday and asked for a copy - expecting just a standard edition. He went out the back and brought in a limited edition, and proceeded to charge me only $99 AU for it. He made a call to his supervisor which I couldn't overhear. He then sent me to another counter to pick up my free strategy guide. My game disc was loose, but unscratched and it plays fine. I'm more than happy with my Halo 3 buying experience.

Just got mine delivered from shopto in the UK and the game disc is heavily scratched. They're saying it's Royal Mail's fault but it's really the fault of the box design. Any idea what I should do? Should I contact MS / Bungie?

Hell, my copy is currently shipping from UK via Royal Mail. I have no hope it will be playable once they and the local post service is done shaking the bejezus out of it.

I will purchase the standard game and play it.

halo 3 at walmart/superstore is a couple cents cheaper than what americans are paying believe it or not and you can buy the limited edition there cheaper than the regular game would cost at eb/bestbuy/futureshop.
