Kaizo Mario #1

Remember that really evil Mario 1 custom level? Anyway, someone made two sets of really evil Mario World custom levels and made his friend play through them. The poster of this video has a good introduction to the series as it is, so I'll just copy it here.

Quote:
The literal translated name for 自作の改造マリオ(スーパーマリオワールド)を友人にプレイさせる is "Making my friend play through my own Mario(Super Mario World) hack", hence Kaizo(hack) Mario to the USA.
The original videos were in god awful codecs that were a bitch to convert, so unfortunately the Tool Assisted Speedruns came first to most youtube watchers.
This is rather unfortunate, as I feel you lose a lot of the "appeal" by watching those.

Anyway, watch an evil genius of a level designer subject his friend with godly skills to the must fucked up combination of creative, insane, downright ASSHOLEISH Super Mario World levels ever dreamed of.

Here's a video of the first level. Links to subsequent levels are in the youtube video description.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r86NLwCYXfk

One thing I like about these videos is that they're not tool assisted, and they left in all the deaths while skipping the parts that that lead up to them if you've already seen it.

The game starts with a thwomp falling towards Mario with nowhere to run.

Excellent.

...That stuff is just... I dunno, cruel, but oh so amazing at the same time.

I was like 'No way, man, no WAY.' when the realization of how Mario had to cross that chasm at the beginning hit me.

The bit around 2:30ish where he spends all that time trying to line up a bounce from a Goomba Paratrooper only to hit an invisible block is fucking classic.

Yeah, that's pretty funny. But, for sheer bloodyminded cuntishness, the start of the sequel wins hands down.

Wow. The guy who made this is an evil genius.

I love how most of his 'traps' don't rely on 'Haha, invisible block, SUCKERS!', but simply needs excellent timing and skill to surpass.

Yeah, the designer is clearly a pretty amazing player himself - there are angles in there that are clearly just done to perfection. It's a real masterpiece.

Very, very cool. It's also nice to see that this is a mod and that they don't link to a ROM file. All they have is an IPS patch file, which I think is totally fine (like Fortress Forever, etc).
Definitely correct me if I'm wrong about that.

The third level was really really cruel. The funniest thing is that the guy who hacked it put the savepoint right before the hardest part of the level, so that the player has to go through that again and again

Ok, in Mario World, what do I need to do in order to get the high bounce rebounds when launching off of an enemy? Is it just jump with timing, do I press other buttons as well?

it is a Rom, but if I'm right it's not copy-written (and if it is it's a Japanese copy-write) I'm not sure either way. Unless the forum rules say I can't post it. I can take it down.

The crazy thing about these videos is that the level designer keeps on one-upping himself as the levels go on so they get even harder and more creative. I LOVE the ending section of the sequel's stage 9 (which is the latest video that is out at the moment). Heck, I love the whole second half of that video, however horribly and hilariously sadistic.

God, these are ingeniously designed. Something a madman would create. You'd think if Bowser were smart enough he'd hire him. Mario'd pretty much be completely screwed. "Princess? Fuck the princess. I'm going back home."

I can't believe there's 22 levels to watch. I've only watched a few so far. God it's so ingenious.

All 22 wrapped up in a neat list by reverse order:

Damnit, those weren't funny at all - they actually pissed me off more than anything.

The design of the level was cool, but I'd rather not see hmi fail 50 times.
