Can't wait to learn more on these. I'm glad Blue Dragon DS is in fact going to be an RPG (not a card game or a 3D action game) -- the more traditional RPGs getting made these days, the happier I am, given how scarce they're becoming.

No thanks. Blue Dragon looks gorgeous, I'd rather not play previous gen (graphically) RPGs anymore.

Awesome Blue Dragon was awesome on 360 and its sure going to own on the 360. Considering that Mistwalker is basically with Microsoft, its great to see the Wii60 (which includes all Microsoft and Nintendo products) relationship advance.

No, seriously, why not?

Because the DS is the new PS2 in Japan, not the Wii.

No, seriously, why not?

Because handheld RPGs are made of awesome.

That, and they're contractually obligated to develop only for X360 as far as the home console front is concerned.

Also ther DS is raping everything in sales, but we knew that already, didn't we?

So you prefer it on a portable N64 as opposed to a souped-up Gamecube? I don't follow the logic here.

Newton's law of motion. Putting aside the awesome VC, Wii has almost no games and seems poised to continue having almost no games*. Meanwhile, DS has a great number of great games and that'll only increase as we move forward. It's where the profits go in this cycle of self-fulfilling prophecy.

*Edit: Speaking ratio-wise. Proportionately, Wii seems to me to have actually been going downhill since an already pretty shallow launch. :( There's an increased number of good games, yeah, sure, but considering how long it's taken to get them, the future is... not looking so hot.

are developing a new DS RPG called "Away ~those snatched~" or such.
Scenario writer: Hironobu Sakaguchi
Composer: Nobuo Uematsu
Character design: Naoto Oshima

Okay, the new RPG is "AWAY 連れ去られた人々" (Away: The People who were Lured Away). Scenario by Hironobu Sakaguchi, music by Nobuo Uematsu, character design by Naoto Oshima (who designed Sonic and Blinx and so recently rocked your world with Vampire Rain). Development is by Artoon, it releases in January

Blue Dragon DS (temporary title) development, ironically, is NOT by Artoon. It's by FeelPlus+. No staff listed except Sakaguchi, but the press release does confirm it is the same worldview as the 360 version, so it is not based on the horrible anime and could potentially be a remake or sequel. It releases in March.

Both titles are being published by AQ Interactive. Both titles are 5,980 yen, so either they're ASH-sized carts or Mistwalker thinks their name is just worth that much these days.

EDIT: Damn! Beaten again!

It was always what it advertised itself to be - a solid, old school RPG with some enhancements to the overall system.

And it was always good - except to people who don't like that sort of thing in the first place.

No, according to Newton's first law of motion, DS's lineup only continues at the same rate so long as no droughts act against it. However, it does seem to agree with Newton's third law of motion and ethelred's postulation that RPGs are scarce, because for every drought that acts on the lineup, there's a reaction force of developers working on RPGs for the system at an equal magnitude.

Pah! Newton was a hack! What is this 'equal and opposite reaction' nonsense? Utter twaddle! I ask you, good sirs, if I reach over and punch a wall, does it reach out and punch me back? No, it most assuredly does not! And who's this rabble-rouser to tell me otherwise?!

Also, I need to see more about the premise of 'Away' before I start getting interested in it.

I would like to see some justification for their 'need' to develop on the PSP.

Excellent!

I glanced at this thread in the middle of a physics assignment. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any way to fit Newton's second law of motion, because it deals exclusively with force, acceleration, and mass. :P

Yes. Sakaguchi hates Sony. He's said this various times.

Also of note, I've just checked the old scans of interviews with the Gooch, and back in November last year before Blue Dragon's release, in one of this Famitsu interviews he mentioned that aside from ASH, LO and Cry On - Mistwalker has 3 projects. 2 had already started and 1 was almost close to beginning production and he hinted at something to do with the West. It was previously speculated that he was talking about Nintendo as the studio in the West of Japan, but who knows.

Away and BD DS are probably the 2 projects that had already started, since in the same interview he was talking about working out details on a continuation to Blue Dragon but having to choose two directions to go in.
