Then I remember that they have 10% the population of the United States. :(

Like Madden and NCAA before it, the sales pattern of NHL shows that there's a lot of PS2 owners out there who increasingly likely, won't be upgrading to a PS3 or 360 until next year at the earliest.

Ill be honest, for the biggest game for the 360 Halo 3 did not spike sales as much as I would have thought... the Wii wasn't far behind and this was MS using the big guns O.o

Then again same thing could happen with Wii when Brawl is released, where most people who want it have it already

Canada's usually about 8-11% of the US totals, but some things are skewed due to Canada being a bit more Nintendo-friendly and Canada being a lot more cheap.

I think the numbers are rather sluggish on the PS2 side because of the holiday season. Allot will be making the switch to next gen this x-mass, either through gifts or sales/bundles. If its anything like me I didn't buy a PS2 game in the last 6-8 months before the PS3 came out, better to save the money & get next gen titles of those games. I expect NHL games to see a boost in Jan/Feb because of that.

So PS3 weekly sales rate is just slightly lower (a couple hundred units) than last month. In spite of Halo 3 and 360 sales, that's maybe a good sign.

Halo3 sales will be insanely frontloaded over September and October. Then in November Wii has Mario launching which is already being called the best Mario since Mario 64 and damn near equal to that title.

My guess is 360 takes Sept and Oct and then Wii take November.. 360 will probably take Dec then as Wii will likely be supply constrained at that point, though Wii could probably take Dec if Nintendo can get the units on the shelves.

An impressive leap for the 360 and fantastic sales for Halo 3 but it would have been shocking if it hadn't been able to outsell the Wii or DS off the back of such a major title. I expect a similar bump for the NPD figures, but the interesting question here is how long this will be sustained and whether there is anything in the pipeline for the 360 that will help it do so.

Mass Effect is apparently going to be getting a "Gears"-like marketing drive. The game should be able to help the 360 late in the season. COD4 and Assassins Creed should also benefit the HD consoles (more so the 360 for obvious reasons). Still a shame that GTA 4 didn't come out this Chrsitmas, that would really have pushed consoles.
