So SMG is as good as Orange Box, but only slightly better than Table Tennis. Makes sense.

From wiki:
Quote:
Reviewed games are given an overall score marked out of 10. Although several games have received 9/10, five games – Metroid Prime, Burnout 3, Gears of War , God of War II and Bioshock - have achieved a 10/10 score in the magazine's history.

GamesTM has been around for around 5 years I think, same shape and size as Edge.

Anyone who hasn't heard of them in the UK should visit their local WHSmiths for once in their lives. Other good newsagents are available.

I didn't think it was such an obscure magazine. I've bought it quite a few times (in Australia), and it's ok. Not as good as Edge, and only some of the Retro section interests me, but it's cheaper and some of the articles and interviews are well done.

Yeah, let's look at scores and gutturally scream in anger. Let's do that.

This is NeoGAF. I know...

I just don't understand how people can get upset over a review score or text. It's subjective, there's no such thing as objective criticism when reviewing games (unless the score is based on "number of technical feats used out of all available" or something that can scientifically be measured).

You can disagree with a criticist's score but read the review text and try understand his/hers point of view. It's all relative, you know.

GamesTM (imo) is like a second-rate EDGE, they want to try to be as harsh and as professional as EDGE and do so quite adamantly. They aren't bad, since they did win an award recently.

Good score for SMG, but disagree with alot of other scores (Orange box and Rachet in particular)

They have those nice full page retro screenshots, at least I think that's them.

lol @ the SDF already going nuclear and pissing their pants in this thread.

GamesTM publications are of an extremely high pedigree and come a close 2nd when compared to EDGE as far as the UK's concerned.

Subjectively or not, they're saying Ratchet is only as good as Conan, and sizeably less good than Pixel Junk Racers.

Which, in my honest, considered opinion, is utter fucking bollocks.

The mag's fine, but the reviews aren't - I have heard stories from the horses mouth that would back this up.

Try the magazine section in your local Game, HMV or Virgin Megastore. 5 years was a guess, but going by the number of backissues, that seems about right.

I love PJR, I really do (and still hold the #2 spot Worldwide) so I would score it highly (and will) but - actually - I dunno. I'm beat. I need a sandwich.

Well, I read some shitty reviews of it and skipped it, but after playing both el Ratchetto and El Conan, I'd say they were par with eachother (regardless of reviews scores), just one is polished until it shines brighter than the sun, the other is not.

For all the "never heard of 'em"s, GamesTM is, as explained, around the same quality of Edge, at different times clearly better than or worse than. But more importantly, it is better than every single US multiplatform magazine or website, which is why you should care if you care about review scores at all.

Eh no they're not. Stop comparing games based on score. Each game's score is for that game only. It's a score for THAT specific game and is not (or, maybe, should not) be compared with other games.

(EDIT) You can't take things out of context man.

I scored Conan higher than a 6, too. I really enjoyed it.

Scores without any kind of context are all sorts of meaningless-it's like saying "Pyrrhus scored a victory against Rome at Asculum" flatly and moving on to the next bit of history of the Pyrrhic War.
