Nevermind; I actually just guessed my password at this minute, having tried for the last couple of months. Finally I can explore the world of SingStore. =)

Anyone having issues getting on the video pics bit online, it just sits there for ages then says lost connection to singstar server.

No, you couldn't. But then again, you never had more than 30 songs to deal with. With Singstore, and the option to add songs to your library, they really should let us do songlists, favorites, etcetera to make it as user friendly as the interface suggests.

I agree; will get annoying scrolling through the circle of covers.

There has been problems for about 12 hours now at my place. Though, the SingStore works fine, MySingStar doesn't.

It's the same here although it was fine in the early hours (when most people had probably gone to bed).

I think they may be having server issues (too many people going online to see what they drunkenly uploaded last night maybe?) because the Singstore is a bit flakey as well (I had a few failed downloads that I had to resume).

The game really needs a Message of the Day that comes up if there are problems as the error messages aren't that clear. Perhaps that's something for the first patch that they're probably working on. Back in the summer when the release was down for the end of July they were talking about a update due in October so I imagine it may not be too far if most of the work has been done already.

Having actually played the game a bit now really makes me wish that more of the PS2 song back catalogue was available from day one. There really are too many omissions at the moment, but the game is still great inspite of it.

Not on my PS3 or my friend's machine (both PAL 60gb machines). The disc-swapping works fine for us.

My PAL PS3 is also fines in regards to Singstar disc swapping - in PAL land, Singstar is literally a system-seller, so they probably ENSURED that it would work.

Not such a priority for Other regions, I guess/

Just got the game :D Played a few songs and nailed the Radiohead song and totally flunked on some others he he, going to need some practice it seems.

Having big problems with the Singstar Online bit, keep dropping the connection or not loading at all, got to download some songs from the store though so I guess they're having server problems.

And is it just me or are the mics way more sensitive in this Singstar, just accidentally breathing into them sounds really high and I don't think it was that way on the PS2 versions(but considering I'm alway drunk when I play them can't be sure). But now just changing hand to hold the mic gives static which seems a little to sensitive, this doesn't have anything to do with mic volume either.

So they have the ads with Europe - Final Countdown playing, and you have to download the damn song to play it. That was a bit of a failure for me..other than that, this game is full of win. the actual Singstore is sweet...havent been able to get onto SingOnline yet (server issues). Only downer was being forced to play Co-Op on the Britney Spears song with my fiancee...now i feel like doing something manly.

Singstore songs/artists by country of origin (excluding United Kingdom):

United States/Canada
* Cartel - Honestly
* Dandy Warhols - Bohemian Like You
* The Fray - Over My Head
* Len - Steal My Sunshine
* Mercury Rev - Goddess On a Hiway
* Pink - Just Like A Pill
* Spin Doctors - Two Princes
* The Weather Girls - It's Raining Men

Australia
* Augie March - One Crowded Hour
* Delta Goodrem - Born To Try
* Men At Work - Down Under
* Silverchair - Tomorrow

Norway
* Maria Mena - You're The Only One

Germany
* Nena - 99 Red Balloons

Sweden
* Europe - Final Countdown

Overall, not bad for Australia. We usually only get ~4 local songs on disc versions, though recent releases have had hardly any. The number of US songs will hopefully increase with the eventual release of SingStar over there. (I think Australian music charts are more in line with the US because I recognise hardly any of those UK artists)

I can't get to the singstore now... when I try to get online it takes me to a strange blank lobby page with "Name/Status/Number of Players" columns, but can't actually get away from it apart from getting to the main menu. The shortcuts aren't working.

Is it just me?

No, he's saying it's bullshit that Sony doesn't fix this (the disc swap crashes on my 60GB NTSC U/C PS3 too).

I might try later today, but has anyone been able to fund purchases on the European store with a US credit card? If so, I might import this puppy. :)

The online has been working perfectly for me now for the last two or so hours.

Some info for non-owners:
There's a simple weekly vote page (think Wii Everyone votes). Which song is better basically.
You can view the friendslist of other people, kinda like Facebook (and now Live)..etc.
You can browse through every user in a big alphabetical phonebook sort of list (each letter has about 100-1000 people atm).
Personal profile contains picture (standard or take a custom one with camera), motto, nationality, favorite group, favorite song and last song played and highest score. People can send you comments. Also, each profile has links to that accounts online videos, photos and sound recordings.
All videos like purchasable song previews or user uploaded videos just load instantenously, no need to buffer.

The SingStore has huge potential. I really hope Sony don't just leave it after a few updates. If it's updated regularly for years to come, SingStar will become one of the biggest games ever made!

Sony have promised at least monthly updates going forward.
Also, SingStar is already gigantic having sold 10m+ in EU/AU alone since 2004 .

I don't mean the brand, I mean most content for a game. If there are monthly updates for the rest of this generation (estimating here) that would be around 250 songs per month for 4-5 years. That would be around 15,000 songs. All speculation ofc...

Just re: the microphone discussion a page or two back... Just found this interview with Paulina Bozek from 2004:

Quote:
AGP: Will the microphones associated with SingStar be utilized by any other Sony created titles?

PB: The SingStar microphones are for SingStar. They only work through our software, the drivers are ours, we sourced the microphones – they’re not seen as an official Sony peripheral, such as the headset. They are very software specific. Everybody wants to use them as they are very good microphones, we have had requests, like, can we make a game using your microphones. But its no, *laughs* they’re our microphones!

They've started to license out the Singstar mic technology over the last few months, so the situation has changed a bit since 2004. Both the PAL PS2 versions of Boogie and High School Musical which came out recently support them.

That would make the most sense, they'd make all their money with microtransactions. They might still release other singstars Blu Rays though, so people get some other "core" songs that fit their tastes.

They don't look too bad. I use a PS2 EyeToy camera and as long as you don't make very quick sudden movements the picture quality is fine. Each video on My SingStar is only 30 secs long and the game indicates when it's recording that section. You can record the entire song, but can't upload it to My SingStar. I havn't uploaded any vids to My SingStar yet, so can't comment on speeds or anything.
