Just to reiterate what I said earlier; it's obviously not that much of a big deal, because as you mention it, this absolutely does not alter the most important aspect here, which is the gameplay itself...Originally Posted by Teasel

But I really don't think you need to be a creepy fuck obsessed by violence to find the presence of gushing out blood and swift decapitations more satisfying and less out-of-place than an explosion of pixels, in a game about killing some bad guys in the most violent and swift way possible with a laser sword...
And the fact is that, just by watching some footage, everything from the gameplay to the cutscenes looks so exaggerated and over-the-top that the ultra-violent visual effects seem to just add to the entertainment given by watching Travis cutting his bloody way through a wave of ridiculous baddies. Simply glorious. And damn fun looking too.
Anyway, if the game is as fun and ridiculously wacky as I think it is, I'm convinced that I'll still find it immensely enjoyable, whether or not the violence would have been toned down in a certain way.
But obviously, this does not mean that I don't think that this potential censorship would be purely unwarranted, and that it wouldn't be kind of frustrating and really disappointing for me and all the people who expected to play and experience the game as Suda and his team intended it to be played and experienced originally.
But basically, it's just that I hope that this game will be awesome enough so that I've no problem getting over the feeling of playing a gimped version...
Oh, well, I guess I'll find out how much of a blood-thirsty bastard I really am when I'll get to try out the potentially censored PAL version myself.
Me too. Oozes with style! I never say it but it's best cover/manual ever!Originally Posted by Arde5643

Btw. Are people serious with the blood thing? It already looked hilarious and unrealistic in uncensored version. It's nothing to cry over if the rest of the game is still in place. The games selling point is all the crazy, funny shit, not realistic violence. There's coin fountain coming out of dead guys for crying out loud.

The blood fountains made the combat even more over-the-top and unrealistic. I'm disappointed, really.Originally Posted by GrayFoxPL

Videogames != real life
Polygons and textures != people

Adults tell adults what they're allowed to see in a videogame for adults. Great.
I never knew I played the censored version of Contra 3 when I was 16. (Super Probotector)
Nintendo, please release more non-games to make videogames truly mainstream.
Edit:
Media Markt, two days ago: There was a guy standing next to his girlfriend checking out the PS3 Spiderman 3 bundle for 399€ iirc. A casual gamer. He's laughing awkwardly, she is shaking her head. On their way to the next isle I overheard her calling it a "toy for children".
Tetris, World of Warcraft and Singstar isn't enough.
Nintendogs (girls) and especially Brain Age and all the other "connect to life-games" (or whatever they call it) for adults are a step in the right direction. Holding the DS like a book without pressing buttons helps. (the museum DS in Japan, cooking, cocktails, music, language, household diary etc)
Shaping the controller like a remote, making it one (or two handed), adding a pointer and making it motion sensitive also helps. (Wii-Sports, -Fit and -Music and all the other trademarks we already know from another thread). Also, the name, shape and size of the console.
As a PC gamer I'm used to loading times, noise, installing and patching games. I played (patched it a billion times) and enjoyed OFP at 15 fps at times... but it's not a game that needs 60fps and I got 30 most of the time. Never owned an NES. (VCS 2600, C-64, Amiga, Gameboy, Gamegear, Lynx, SNES, N64, Gamecube, DS, Wii, PC)
It's refreshing to play Zelda, Wii Sports, Metroid Prime 3 or Mario Galaxy knowing there won't be patch, loading, install or frame rate issues.
there's an online petition already, but it's not very well done. I've signed, anyway.Originally Posted by MidiSurf

BTW Does Freeloader work on Wii? Or do I have to get a modchip?
No Freeloader yet, but only modchips, but those don't work for all games and there's the risk of getting your console bricked because of updates and such.Originally Posted by Ynos Yrros

As Dascu said modchips are kind of risky atm. You could try for a US Wii though (if you can get one until February - just hope that the fad ends this christmas).Originally Posted by Ynos Yrros

I don't really get the "game+" thing. Can someone explain ?
Definitely the best choice. I'm not sure what country you're in, but you'd probably benefit from the exchange rate when importing from the U.S. anyways.Originally Posted by Danielsan

You can replay the game, but you keep moves and items from a previous session.Originally Posted by Ramenman
The funniest thing being that it's all NOE's fault even though they have nothing to do with it.

The style of this game is awesome and only one can imagine how much better the next one can be, or if they had a larger production budget. Regardless, I've gotten used to the overworld and yucky bike controls. I just love fighting in this game. :D

When you have to waggle the controller how "wide" movement you have to do?
I mean, like, when the arrows pop up for the special kill. When the arrow is "up", do you have to rise the wiimote or just point up?
Same with that rotating move - do you have to "draw" circle poiting the remote or you have to do circle motion with the whole hand?
Do you have to shake the wiimote extremely rapidly to "charge" the "sword"?
big kudos if someone answers!
Please!
From all that I've seen and read about this game, I definitely had the impressions that they put a lot of effort into making this game's core gameplay better than the ones found in their usual productions, more easy to enjoy ,and just plain fun. And it looks like it finally paid off.
Anyway, thanks again everyone for the impressions. Keep them coming !
Just a quick motion. You don't have to swing out in large arcing motions to get the full effect. Flicking works fine. Although it is more satisfying doing the actual motions. :DOriginally Posted by GrayFoxPL
Got an important question for peeps playing the game:
When you have to waggle the controller how "wide" movement you have to do?
You wave it upward. Just flick it in that direction.I mean, like, when the arrows pop up for the special kill. When the arrow is "up", do you have to rise the wiimote or just point up?
Basically, you hold the Wiimote pointing up and you move your arm in a clockwise motion.Same with that rotating move - do you have to "draw" circle poiting the remote or you have to do circle motion with the whole hand?
You can wave it fast or jack it like a... well, you know. :lolDo you have to shake the wiimote extremely rapidly to "charge" the "sword"?

I'm not a great fan of GTA, but for me, it's biggest flaw was when you fail a mission, you couldn't simply restart, you had to drive halfway across the map to talk to someone, then drive back to where the mission was... wasting a few mins of my precious spare time. Suda51 seem to have not only copied this flaw, but made it worse by the inconsequentiality of the driving segments, unlike the policeathon of GTA. NMH's city is acting as a huge, boring, level select screen. Such a shame, as I'm loving everything else.
So, in case you've forgotten my question, does the city gain interesting elements later in the game? I think I'm around rank 7 right now.
The game only cares about acceleration. Even the rotations they suggest you to do when you "cling" your sword with another one you can just "shake" the Wiimote to gain advantage.Originally Posted by GrayFoxPL

Memory of Child makes you run fast, memory of Demon I guess can make you charge up your sword attack, but what about the others?
Also, do they all cost the same, or do some cost more then others?

7 balls per skill.
I dont remember what they all do, but the first one shows enemies on screen, there is a dash one, there is one pertaining to the black and white zombie weirdo mode, one gives you more grappling chances, one gives you a counter, one gives you a jump down attack, I forget the others.
Dash is absolutely essential. It's not so much a dash as it is a hyper run.
But I'm really, really enjoying the gameplay. This is what Killer7 should have been in my opinion. Easily my favorite Wii game not made by Nintendo.

Probably should've elaborated. I liked Killer7 overall, but didn't think it should've been on rails. I really dig the openness of NMH. I'm not even halfway through NMH yet though, so I can't say for certain which is the better game, but ...Originally Posted by Tim-E

I think the rails allowed K7 to be a tighter experience without any boring parts or filler. It was basically like you were watching a movie. I haven't played much past the intro to the city in NMH, but going from what was said above it seems like there's some boring stuff because NMH is open-ended.Originally Posted by rareside

3 months is WAY to far off :'(
Yeah, Killer 7 wouldnt have been the gem it is to me if it had free control in my opinion. Ironically, it is one of the things that the critics bitched about endlessly.Originally Posted by Bebpo

Note: these contain gameplay spoilers, like game elements I hadn't heard of before. I don't really consider them spoilers but some people do so whatever lol.
Right, so you're this guy named Travis Touchdown who goes to the game store to buy a new game and is out of money, when he is tipped off by this beautiful blond that if he only kills this guy he can get some money. So you go and kill him using the lightsaber you won off an internet auction site and it turns out you've qualified for a no expense paid vacation to try to make it to the top of the assassin ranking by killing ten other assassins.
It's at this point after this very brief set up that Travis turns to you, says, "Hey you, with the Wiimote, Press A" and the game begins.
So right, it's your duty to go around and kill the other 10 assassins to become the top. Each assassin plays off as a separate kind of 2D sidescrolling beatemup except in 3D and ends with an absolutely insane boss fight against the very unique character of said assassin. (Don't worry, though, always before this thus far, there's been a bathroom where you can take a dump on the toilet, which saves your game.) In the meantime you travel around Santa Destroy on foot or on your bike, doing odd things and working up enough money to input into the SANTA DESTROY ATM for the next round of Kill An Assassin and Laugh While Doing It.
The game is extremely heavy on the style if you couldn't tell already. In general, the stages basically do that Prince of Persia swinging camera to show you the next area or set of areas you can travel to, and when you're not beating up thugs with your lightsaber, then you're generally exploding shining treasure chests with the typical beatemup powerups or goodies in them, like good ol' Final Fight, except they have intentionally pixellated 8-bit representations.
Fighting involves pressing A, B and Z and liberal use of Wiimote gestures. A and B mix up your two different main types of attacks and combos. These are further augmented by your holding of the Wiimote, as it determines your stance for attack or defense. Holding up means your attacks are weak, but fast, down more blockable, but more powerful and with a longer reach. Also holding up while using it with the nunchaku employs various pro wrestling finishing moves you can get from pretending to be a badass while watching wrestling videos on your TV at home.
Furthermore it dishes out various killing moves (different from finishing moves) based on which way you swing it once an enemy's health is down. This is really cool, because it feels like you deliver that last brutal sock to the head and it doesn't get tiresome out, because the bulk of combat is button based, so only the most visceral parts are reserved for the Wiimote. It's also cool because if your good and fast enough, you can make more coins float out of the enemy when you kill them. That's right, when you kill enemies in this game they explode into a profusion of 8-bit black blocks of squirmy liquid and a tornado of coins comes out of them and gets sucked into Travis.
Z locks on (with a Duck Hunt 8-bit target) and also you can block, but it eats up the light sabers power so you have to get good at rolling around with the d-pad to avoid attacks and get in positions to get past the enemy's blocking defenses as well.
Besides watching your health, you've got to watch the power of your light saber (which makes all sort of ZARA ZARA UJA UJA sounds out of the Wiimote, BTW, when somebody calls you, you also hold up the Wiimote to your ear as if it were a cellphone). You can replenish this by pressing 1 and then shaking it up and down, that will make Travis masturbate the lightsaber and its energy will go up. You can get upgrades to your lightsaber, that allow it to find hidden items by vibrating when their around or save energy, or buy new beam katanas as they called in the game.
Wiimote actions also come into play giving you ukemi kind of dodges to evade with and with some of the super special secret moves you can earn by taking on the spirits of the seven Killer 7 Smiths in a collection subquest. As well, in the training, where you do things like squats, lifting with dumbbells etc. to increase your energy or combo hits and so on. It also controls the throttle on your motor cycle.
In between the action stages, you can go back to your house, change clothes (you can get new belts, sunglasses, jackets, shirts and pants so far), watch TV and look at your otaku collection you've collected around the game.
You can get part time jobs like "cat-baby-sitting" (evil grin), mowing the lawn, collecting coconuts or cleaning graffiiti by going to The Place of Job Insecurity and registering for one.
Or you can go to Kill Entertainment and sign up for random jobs to kill people like using baseball and bats to kill the fans, or kill the CEO of Pizza Hut. Or you go just get into other sorts of fights.
There are some other diversions like a racing game grand prix and so on, but I wouldn't want to spoil all the fun surprises!
Certainly, this game will definitely choose its players with its freaky graphic style and insane violent humor, but other than the camera being kind of wonky, there's not much I don't like about it. It's like Godhand + Killer7 + Yakuza + Final Fight + a Commodore 64 and I feel its one of those games that proves the Wii can do great things when developers truly exploit it, just like Zack & Wiki and Dragon Quest Swords.
:lol i have to get this game.
