Whispers On The Wind : The Official European Hardware Sales Thread
#1
I thought I would try the impossible and bring together the small fragments of info we get on european hardware sales, since we get data so infrequently it can be lost in the clutter. If you have new links or info please post them and I`ll add them to the original post. Where there is more than one set of data I`ll add all sources so people can make there own minds up. Here is some to get started :-
UK Source - Screen Digest Date - 22/11/2007 ( End of third quarter numbers ) Link - http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2007...rss&feed=media NB: The wording of the article is strange, the 360 and Wii numbers may be reversed, but this seems unlikely now given the other numbers. Also, in order to claim a traditional, Norman-style conquest of Europe, how much does Sony's predominance in Spain and Portugal, for example, close the gap created by the UK numbers? Or is it not that Europe is Sonyland, but rather there exist Sonylands in Europe?
It's those sorts of claims that confuse me. |

Your french numbers of PS3 and Wii are incorrect according to this:

So why are Spain's unsourced figures presented, but France's unsourced numbers skirted around?

Thanks for trying to compile what data there is, though. The 1 million French Wii thing was new to me. :) |

Edit: Also to throw more uncertainty into the whole "Spanish numbers" thing, SCE Spain sometimes refer to Spain and Portugal together as Spain. I could almost convince myself that the "Spanish" number of 400K PS3s might be correct if it covers the entire Iberian peninsula. |

The UK numbers are not reversed, that is unless the 360 hasn't sold one console sine June. Chart-Track figures back then put the 360 at 1,193,088, Wii at 618,278 and PS3 at 281,977, so you can all figure out how the consoles have sold over the June-November period.
The Wii hit a million in the UK at the very end of August, so 200,000 in 3 months sounds about right, especially given that in most of those 3 months Wii's were pretty easy to find across the UK. Before the dark times....before the £1,000 ebay auction. |
