Whispers On The Wind : The Official European Hardware Sales Thread #1

I thought I would try the impossible and bring together the small fragments of info we get on european hardware sales, since we get data so infrequently it can be lost in the clutter. If you have new links or info please post them and I`ll add them to the original post. Where there is more than one set of data I`ll add all sources so people can make there own minds up. Here is some to get started :-

Source - Screen Digest
Date - 22/11/2007 ( End of third quarter numbers )

NB: The wording of the article is strange, the 360 and Wii numbers may be reversed, but this seems unlikely now given the other numbers.

Also, in order to claim a traditional, Norman-style conquest of Europe, how much does Sony's predominance in Spain and Portugal, for example, close the gap created by the UK numbers? Or is it not that Europe is Sonyland, but rather there exist Sonylands in Europe?

It's those sorts of claims that confuse me.

Me? I don't know the last time I've ever type-uttered the words "Am [any]land total". It's a pretty common sales-age phenomenon that I did not make up myself.

I support this thread since i never have an idea of what were the market shares and sales data in European country.
Portable systems data would be nice though.

Can anyone add up these sales and the NA/JP sales and figure out if PS3 actually made any gains on 360 WW this year? I have a feeling the answer is no, but I haven't crunched the numbers.

Because someone proved the french ones wrong. I do mention that the source is unknown.

Also, if you have any other french numbers, I`ll add them to the OP

Totals

3.06million Wiis
2.54million 360s
1.29million PS3s

There's no pan-European trend. Most countries tend to have independent leaders, so if anyone uses a [console]land again, I'll make sure to take out a hit on you.

But who also are not Chart-Track. Those cannot be Chart-Track numbers. They have the 360 at 1.55 million through September (i.e. third-quarter), and Chart-Track said at the time of Halo 3's launch (last week or two of September) that the 360 had 1.4 million.

Thanks for trying to compile what data there is, though. The 1 million French Wii thing was new to me. :)

This is true.

Better formatting and LTD should be in the original post.

May as well add Aussie numbers as they are included in PAL discussions as well right?

Do you have a source for the chart track? I`ll add them as a comparison.

Also, my spanish is too limited to extract the numbers from your article, I see that it's an interview with Sony, are they the source, and what are the numbers?

Oh, and I`ll sort out the formatting when I get a chance.

It was in their little writeup with the weekly numbers for the week of Halo 3's release.

Edit:
Also to throw more uncertainty into the whole "Spanish numbers" thing, SCE Spain sometimes refer to Spain and Portugal together as Spain. I could almost convince myself that the "Spanish" number of 400K PS3s might be correct if it covers the entire Iberian peninsula.

Mostly just obtained from searching GAF. Only through collaboration can such a thread come together. I only speak english, some french, a small spattering of german and a few spanish phrases, so I can't translate most of the articles anyway.

If anyone finds more numbers, please post them here!

The UK numbers are not reversed, that is unless the 360 hasn't sold one console sine June. Chart-Track figures back then put the 360 at 1,193,088, Wii at 618,278 and PS3 at 281,977, so you can all figure out how the consoles have sold over the June-November period.

The Wii hit a million in the UK at the very end of August, so 200,000 in 3 months sounds about right, especially given that in most of those 3 months Wii's were pretty easy to find across the UK. Before the dark times....before the £1,000 ebay auction.
