when I was playing it yesterday I kept thinking I could hear something that sounded like speech but I couldn't be sure. How do I check to see if I have chat active? I don't have a mic (other than the Rock band one :lol) so I can't chat back but I'd like to know if I can receive at least.

It should be on all the time. Maybe it's just me, but I could barely understand anyone until I got a Bluetooth mic. Whenever someone talks, you see a little icon by their name. Then again, even when I'm not talking the icon is blinking away. I don't think I'm causing any annoying static since I see the same erratic blinking by other people's names, and their mics are silent.

After playing this demo more, I find myself missing the giant explosions of Crash mode. All the videos of Showtime mode have shown a Katamari-esque car tumbling through a street with zero explosions. Does anyone know if you can detonate your car in the final version of Paradise?

I'm not feeling this game either, and it is because of the lack of structure with a crash mode. You take away my favorite part of the game, and the game suffers. I feel the same way about this game when they took away various fatalities on Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance when they rolled out the new game engine for that. Maybe they are holding it back for the 2009 version of the game (this is EA after all).

I loved Burnout 2,3 and Revenge as well.

I saw a Burnout Paradise TV ad today during PTI on ESPN. Seems Sony put up the money for co-advertising as it only showed the PS3 boxart with no mention of the 360 version at all.

Did it have Guns N Roses? Or was it the Entertainment Universe theme?

It was the Guns N Rose one with all the cars having words above them. Aired about twice.. once during PTI and again during Sportcenter.

I guess I'll need a BT mic as well because it still sounded like I was listening to Charlie Brown's mom talk while I was playing this morning.

The more I play the demo the more I hate the crash cinematic, it makes that same sound while going in sepia slo mo (which does not look good btw) then it suddenly goes into fast forward or something. I like the way crashes were handled in older versions. I'm not sure I can get used to this

Is it me or is there really no point to online in burnout paradise? It seems like they just drop you into the world with other players and that's it. You can't participate in challenges at all, you can only drive around and takedown other players.(And do stunts)

The host can initiate challenges, and in the final you can set up races/events.

Now that we are within a week from release, is there anyone interested in creating the official game thread?

I would do an Official Thread, but i don't see myself having the time to create/update etc.

While driving around in an online freeburn today i checked out my demo stats, i got ~350 takedowns since i downloaded the demo. I saw someone online with 900. Let's compare! :D
