Thought that the rumor stated that Suikoden would be announced in the new Jump

Edit: Yeah, it does.

The Monolithsoft side producer is Koji Ishitani, who also produced NxC. After reading the interview, it sounds pretty lolz. They want to expand the scope of Original Generations to another genre, so they picked a RPG. The battle system sounds a lot like NxC's except with a party system. You press one button over and over to do multiple attacks and combos based on timing, and it's supposed to give the game an "action packed" feel.

It's sad to see how far Monolithsoft has fallen. Disaster, Soma Bringer, OG Saga.... what the hell happened to Takahashi and Honne? Who knows if they're even with the company...

Well, at least being an OG game it has a chance of being localized.

Though thinking back if the choice was between using a translation guide for the various SRW games or paying $90 for each one...

Anyways, give peace and cleavage a chance. I never judge a game to suck just by the team making it or the genre that it's in. This could be good.

What's wrong with Soma Bringer and Disaster? Though I do wonder where Honne is. I take it if he's not with Disaster, then he's on the other unannounced Monolith Project.

I fail to see how it's ugly.

It looks like nice 2D graphics. And hey, more SRW (even in a different form) is never a bad thing.

I somehow feel the need to start gimp and shop a "bounce" animation into the bird pic. I mean, the picture series on the top of the first page looks like it features a Gainax/DOAX level of bounce.

The battles look nice, but then so did Namco x Capcom. The world map and field graphics look really gutter 2D, especially for DS. And there are random encounters. Really cheapo effort. If it's anything like NxC, which judging from the staff and interview it will be, you'll get totally sick of the battles after the first 10 hours, but the game will go on for another 60 hours. I fail to see how this is a good thing.

Hey, instead of blowing me off, why not point out some games you've liked? Seriously, the only things that stick in my head have been you dogging various series (the Tales games come to mind) and companies. Even on the occasions you have grudgingly seemed to enjoy something, it always seems to come with a bunch of caveats about how it's too little too late, the company in question deserves to go down in flames, etc. :p What do you enjoy? What actually rates the duckroll Seal of Approval? (tm) That would help put your criticisms in perspective.

If nothing else, he liked Baten Kaitos and Xenosaga III. I think that's his point: that Monolith Soft's quality has really tanked because look at what they made before and then look at what they're making now.

Of course, I don't think this game really fits into that narrative. While I agree it looks pretty awful, it also looks like Namco x Capcom with a SRW skin instead of... well, Namco and Capcom. So it's just a continuation of something that sucked in Monolith Soft before recent times.

Anyway, he's ducky being ducky. Just let him be. Ignore it if it bothers you that much.

The other problem with that line of thinking is that most of Monolith's earlier games were really plagued with quality issues, too. It's hard to see a big quality drop... except in the art department. Those guys have really fallen off the wagon.

My grudge with Monolithsoft in the recent years is that their level of art has REALLY fallen. Even within Xenosaga, after Ep1 they ditched Honne as art director and it really hurt. It's really sad to see the developer that was responsible for Xenogears, Xenosaga, and Baten Kaitos art-wise to degrade into stuff that looks like doujin games. I'm not even sure what Disaster looks like, it's completely inconsistant with anything else Monolithsoft has done, and not in a good way.

The question stands, wtf happened to the staff that made the company worth paying attention to in the first place? Have they left, and if so then what the hell did Nintendo buy? A shovelware developing husk?

I think it's important to note that I diss a lot of developers not because I want to run them down, but I'm really frustrated that the industry can't seem to not run shit to the ground.

Tales is not a bad series, there are great developers within Tales Studio, but Namco has clearly chosen to run the series into the ground in the last few years and milk it for all it's worth. It's disgusting.

Monolithsoft was a really promising studio that actually worked on some pretty interesting games. Now they're just working on stuff that look so generic and unoriginal, and the art has taken a nosedive.

Mistwalker has really good concepts and ideas, but yet they keep working with either really incompetent writers, or programmers, or whatever it is that keeps plaguing their games with issues that revent them from being successful titles.

I dunno, it's really fucking depressing to look forward to stuff only to get disappointed over and over by the end results. It'll be great if everyone could say "this looks like a great game" and then it comes out and WOW IT'S A GREAT GAME! Rarely happens anymore. Best to keep expectations low and run everything down instead. :P

After all, how many games can be FFIV DS. :(
