The three main issues I had were: 1) Lack of mission variety, 2) the core mechanic requires substantial improvement; especially near the end where they were just piling obscene numbers of loops on you, and 3) the story was even kiddier than it should have been. This certainly looks prettier, but I'm skeptical about whether or not the gameplay will be improved.

Also, Pokemon Ranger 2 is apparently being called "Pokemon Ranger: Batonnage". |

As far as Gold and Silver remakes go, I don't see any way they're not happening. Some people claim that FR/LG were only created because they "needed" to be so that the GBA gen could get its hands on all the Pokemon, and since G/S don't "need" to be created they won't. But I think that's a pretty naive way of looking at things (and I'm fairly sure I've never seriously called naivete on anybody on GAF before). FR/LG sold multimillions; I don't see how Nintendo could look at that and say, "Well, you know, it's just too bad that we don't need a Gold/Silver remake, because if we did we could make more money. It's just too bad that we had to settle for tossing references to the Johto storyline all over Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, Fire Red/Leaf Green, and Diamond/Pearl."
Edit: "But just in case we do this Gold/Silver remake that has no chance of happening because it's not 'needed,' we'll go ahead and put some code into D/P to show that a Pokemon was sent over from Johto."

Anyone who found Pokémon Ranger hard fails at gaming. That was easy compared to other games out there, seriously. I didn't beat the final boss on my first try but I beat it on my second so. =S
But anyway, I'm excited as I loved the first game. I just found it a bit short, but I will definitely pick up this sequel since I liked the first one so much. It was an interesting concept, but like others have said, hopefully they give various quests and try to make it more innovative. I honestly didn't like the first Mystery Dungeon but I never gave it a chance, but I may give the second games a chance. ~Scott |
