A quick look over at the official PEGI site shows that they have recently rated a few upcoming PSN games, and gave them the go ahead for a European release. The likes of Cool Boarders 3 and Destruction Derby 2 are there, but if you are anything like me, then it should be the reveal of a possible release of Vib Ribbon on PSN that will get you the most excited.

I really have no idea what the fuck Vib Ribbon is about, but I've heard so many people talk about it (without grasping the concept) I'll probably buy it just for the sake of it.

yeah, while im happy that they are putting it on PSN, a version that would let you use MP3s would have been beyond amazing.

Yeah, I already stated it in the PSN topic. Quite awesome, although it would've been better if it indd used MP3's. Hopefully it does use CD's though, since I have a lot.

Also, Cool Boarders 3, Destruction Derby 2 and Namco Musuem Volume 1 have all been rated by the PEGI. So expect them sometime in the coming weeks.

I never noticed that in the PEGI list at all Pac-Man (1980), Rally-X (1980), New Rally-X (1981), Galaga (1981), Pole Position (1982), Bosconian (1981) and Toy Pop (1986) would all be worth all be worth a play in my opinion!

Who said it's a PSOne port?

There were talking about remaking it before.

EDIT:

Said Matsuura, "Many of my friends from the states have been asking me 'When are you going to make Vib Ribbon again?'" adding that the title would be "for new hardware, or downloadable. I really think I have to do that. It’s been many years since then, so I have to."

lol audio CD's

oddly enough, if I were to get this game, it'd probably be the first time I've played an audio CD in almost a year :lol

Of course, if it's hacked/remade to support mp3's...then right on.

because the clearance came with 3 other psone games leading me to believe that this will simply be an update to the psone roster on the network.

i would absolutely love to be wrong though :D

There's some other interesting stuff on the PEGI site that's not been released (in Europe) on the store yet as far as I know:

Kurushi Final
Ridge Racer
Ridge Racer Type 4
Motortoon Grand Prix
Motortoon Grand Prix 2
Tekken 2
Tekken 3
Wip3out
Wipeout 2097

Yeah, but...

Asked whether the original game would come out as a downloadable PSOne game through the PlayStation Network, or if he owned the IP, Matsuura replied, "No, and no. [The IP is] unfortunately owned by Sony. But currently Sony is a little open with treatment of IPs, so if I get a lot of money, I can buy it from Sony."

In that interview he said a downloadable PSOne game would NOT be coming. So what happened? He's unlikely to buy the IP from Sony, especially now he's working on a Wii title with Rodney Greenblat. I guess it didn't work out... unfortunate, because an MP3-driven Vib Ribbon would have been godly.

There may be a technical limitation in the way .mp3s are encoded as far as interpreting the sound waves.

Are PSone games with redbook audio encoded as .mp3? It would make sense to make the download shorter- if the emulator is already tooled to recieve .mp3 it might not be such a problem. That said if it was compatible then it would potentially break the original CD functionality which was the main draw of the game.

I doubt I'd buy it unless I could use music from my hard drive and discs.

I remember two summers ago trying to get my friend's PAL version working on my modded US PS2 -- no go.

Vib Ribbon is a truly awesome game, and I've kinda classified it with Rez, Parappa, Amplitude and Frequency in terms of classic music titles. If it comes to the US, I'll snag it in a heartbeat.

I had no idea either untill I saw someone post this tutorial of Vib Ribbon on another thread, and I must admit, I was somewhat stunned, in a positive way. It looks like a title I will pick up when I eventually get a PS3.

The ease and access of mp3s would make this sweet as hell, but you could still take all your legal mp3s and burn them down to a CD and put that in and play off it. So it's an extra step, but still possible.

I have always wanted to play Vib Ribbon, I love the music which I attained through less than legal means, and want it in NA!

you can play burned cds on your PS3? I thought it didnt accep that stuff. I am really judging all this because my original Xbox would only read CDs that were burned on rewritable discs, which was annoying.

And yes, Laugh & Peace are the best game soundtrack band ever or something.

PSP remake with MP3/AAC support would be hot sex.

At this point, though, I'd settle with the original PS1 game coming to the U.S. as a downloadable, however, so that I don't have to hook up my PS2 to play my Japanese copy.

If Nintendo can release Sin And Punishment on the US Virtual Console and get kudos for it, then Sony should by all means take the hint and give us old PS games that never saw the light of day here. It's a trend I can get behind. :D

I bet it wont. They would need to rewrite part of the code so that it goes seraching for MP3 files or whatever on a Mem Stick rather than on a CD.

It might work the old way (reading tracks from audio CD) on the PS3 tho.
