4X in an RTS?

Explore

Quote:

A game of Sins of a Solar Empire can range from 30 to 100 planets in size, spread out among up to four different solar systems. Travel is managed via phase lanes - interplanetary and interstellar highways that connect planets, asteroids and stars. Send scouts to unexplored planets to discover new lanes and new territory to conquer. As you grow in power, you can also research new technology to help find distant planets and detect the movement of enemy fleets from far off.

Expand

Quote:

As you discover new territory to claim, you must expand and claim it as quickly as possible, or else the enemy might! Add planets and asteroids rich in resources to your ever-growing empire either through military conquest or cultural dominance. If your war fleets cannot wrest control of a planet from an enemy, extend your cultural influence along the phase lanes and entice enemy populations on the fringes to join your cause instead.

Exploit

Quote:
An expanding empire requires resources to power its ever-growing war machine and economic engine. Sins of a Solar Empire has three primary resources; Metal, Crystal and Credits. Building structures on planets and in-orbit will help you maximize your income and ability to support larger and larger fleets of ships.

Exterminate

Quote:

Your empire grows in size and in strength, but now your borders are threatened by an opposing empire. They block further expansion and look poised to strike against you. Now you are faced with but two choices: run and hide behind your fortified worlds, or take the offensive and strike before the enemy can. Sins of a Solar Empire at its core is a game of interstellar war. Victory will only be achieved when your enemies lie broken and defeated at your feet. Only once you have secured peace and safety for your people through the extermination of your foes can you rest.

System Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

* Windows XP SP2 / Windows Vista
* 1.8 GHz Single-Core Processor
* 512 MB RAM (1 GB for Windows Vista)
* 128 MB DirectX 9 3D Video Card (Radeon 9600 / GeForce FX 6600 and above)
* DirectX 9.0c Compatible Sound Card
* DVD-ROM Drive
* 3 GB Hard Drive Space
* Keyboard and Mouse
* DirectX 9.0c

Recommended Requirements:

* 2.2 GHz Dual- or Quad-Core Processor
* 1 GB RAM (2 GB for Windows Vista)
* 256 MB DirectX 9 3D Video Card (Radeon X1600 / GeForce 7600 and above)

*Just a reminder to everyone that just because you're below the minimum specs, doesn't mean you can't play the game. They upped the minimum purposely so that if you are within the minimum specs range, you will not only be able to just run he game(As many games minimum specs simply mean) you will be able to play the game decently

Collector's Edition

Quote:
Collector's Edition ($49.95) which is available direct as well as certain retailers

So what's the difference?

The Collector's Edition box includes the following bonus items:

* a foldout tech-tree poster
* artwork posters
* a hotkey card
* a music CD

For users who are doing download only, the Collector's Edition is only $44.95 but they will still be able to get the music CD (we'll be providing it as a digital download shortly after release) and PDF versions of the other materials (which we will also be providing after release). Since there's less physical materials, it's $5 less than the actual boxed version.

If you decide later you want the boxed unit, you can order that for $5 plus the cost of shipping and handling.

Also Collector's Edition users will receive the Sins of a Solar Empire MyColors theme

Demo

Quote:
There will be a demo in around a month.

Expect a demo to be released around March

I think you should also include a link to the game's homepage.

EDIT: Even though we can easily find it for ourselves.

EDIT2: Oh, nvm, I see that you have it. It's just not hyperlinked.

Is there a demo planned for this? It looks very impressive, but I don't know if I'm a decent enough RTS player to even play it.

Don't you mean won't pirate it? With low specs people won't be afraid if their PC can run it or not.

Stardock's policy of no copy protection seems to encourage more purchases than piracy, much to Starforce's chagrin.

Someone just did an experiment on beta 4 of the build and was able to place over 20,000 ships in the game, without it crashing.

20k ships? wtf, why would you need that many? And that would EASILY kill my pc.

I'm going to wait for the demo and GFW's impressions before i decide to jump in.

Well done OP.

Me too. That is, once I get off work... I remember reading someone post that it would be up to download late afternoon EST. Hopefully sooner than later. :)

Can't wait to get the box and inserts too. They look pretty cool from the screenshots I've seen.

Where're the space chicks the title promises ? Also, can anyone who's tried the pre-order beta comment on the music? I want to decide if the extra $10 for the collectors edition is worth it.

Pre-ordered. Even though I suck at these types of games, I love them to death.

I probably won't be playing it tomorrow though, unless the download is available early. Working swing shift sucks. :(

Stardocks games have good tutorials, so if you have never really gotten into a RTS or 4x game before you should be able to learn pretty quickly.

This game is supposed to be easy to get into, but very hard to master.

If you buy the DD version, whether you opt for the box or just stay with the download, you are considered to have bought the Collector's Edition and get the CE goodies (though digitally if you didn't get the box).
