Sting has officially run out of Wonderswan games to port to the PSP.

Knights in the Nightmare

- the main character is a wisp, a spirit without a body
- the wisp takes controls of knights by charming them and giving orders
- the genre is "turn based RTS"
I'll repeat that one
- the genre is "turn based RTS"
- each turn is time based, there offensives and defensive turns, plays out in realtime
- top screen is graphical, bottom screen is wiremap strategic
- you control the wisp with the touchpen and use it to give knights orders
- demons will aim for the wisp, so you have to avoid them, like in a shooting game
- character designer is that itou guy that did Yggdra
- the heroine is a female knight named Maria
- Planned 2008 release.

Etrian Odyssey 2
* Well-balanced, you can't let your guard down even against small fry
* Mapping is fun
* Happy about upgraded tools
* Compass addition is a plus
* One quicksave slot
* Skill balance is tweaked, jobs are more varied than last time

Other pointless news:
Battle Fantastia from Arc is coming out on PS3 and Xbox360 in May. Arcade Port.
Spectral Force Genesis from Idea Fa*tory on DS in May too, but no one cares

<kyoriMayCry> duckroll: yeah well the translation in the thread reads: - character designer is that itou guy that did Yggdra <--
[6:13pm] <kyoriMayCry>
shinichi ito is the game director/design
[6:13pm] <kyoriMayCry>
illustration is sunaho tobe. but like i said. i cnat figure out the 2nd illustrator.
[6:13pm] <kyoriMayCry>
and weird. i dont know wtf design creation is, but its satoko kiyuzuki.
*shrug*

Knights looks fantastic (which isn't a surprise given how great Sting's earlier 2D games looked). And given how Riviera and Yggdra Union were two of the best GBA games, I can't wait to play this. The art's great, too. Looks like some of their best character designs (and they seem older than the prior designs).

I'm actually a bit surprised as I figured their first new portable game would be for the PSP, but I'll take it either way.

Doesn't it say it's an turn-based real time RPG in the genre, though?

DS game? But, but... preferred platform, if Sting made a new handheld game it was never suppose to be on the DS.

It looks awesome! Hope Atlus will tackle this one as well.

Edit:

Battle Fantastia from Arc is coming out on PS3 and Xbox360 in May. Arcade Port.

Fantastic! Hope it's decent.

Even with all of that armor I was still sort of expecting to see the heroine's boobies hanging out. Thankfully that's not the case.

Neat @ Battle Fantasia getting a console port, it'll give my arcade stick something to do at least.

Orochi 2 is of course in my most wanted games list for 2008. Hopefully the 360 port is announced soon.

It's also confirmed that MO is definitely going to be more of an actual "sequel", rather than a rudimentary update. Or at least, going by Koei parlance, it's definitely more of a "MO2", rather than "MOXL". Which is all fine and dandy to me...

And on another note, Knights of the Nightmare looks like fun...can't wait to see more...

It's the 4th part of the series, and the 3rd part hasn't been announced yet, so it's possible the PSP game is the 3rd part and has fallen behind schedule... 1 and 2 were Riviera and Yggdra respectively.

Gotcha. So all the games tie together and it's an Ogre Battle Saga thing they've got going on here.

Regardless, I'm really excited. Like I said, I absolutely loved Yggdra Union and Riviera, and this game looks great. Hope we see the third game announced soon-ish too!

Holy shit Sting! I was wondering when they'd announce something new and this sounds great. With this and Baroque, I hope enjoy more of their works. Expecting an Atlus localization as before. The art already looks good, I hope the music (more Minako Adachi/Shigeki Hayashi?) and gameplay match as well.

Excellent scores for EO2 as well.

Battle Fantasia Port? I didn't think that'd happen after it's general failure in the arcades.

Taigong Wang sounds awesome.

"Taigong Wang (a fisherman, boatman, or recluse) is found by Wen Wang and helps his son Wu Wang defeat the Shang and establish the Zhou Dynasty."

I imagine in Orochi 2 Liu Bei will seek the assistance of Taigong in order to defeat the Demons. Sounds great.

I wonder which is the better version?

My only guess is that DS may suffer from super-compressed audio, while PSP doesn't have the luxury of dual screen presentations (which I personally love on the DS). Hrm...curious what the Famitsu reviewers had to say on that one.

I can't agree with that last part. Absolutely loved the design in Yggdra Union. Extremely refreshing SRPG, I enjoyed the difficulty and the completely innovative mechanics, and it had far and away the best music (and probably best visuals too) on the GBA. At least we both agree that Riviera rocked, though.

Winning Eleven Wii review:

- The game plays in an entirely unique fashion (RTS style), and effectively gives entirely unique sensations of gameplay.
-The fact that the game tends to develop more like the real soccer makes it really fun.
-The people who were used to the old control scheme might be puzzled. But because the buttons used in the game are actually so few, it is still accessible.
-The players positions and formations can be easily adjusted.
-Because the players and the cursors can be a bit small, we recommand this game to be played on a large TV.

Score : 9/9/8/9

Had some flaws, but overall a solid port with some decent upgrades. It'd be easier for you to find that one than the GBA game anyway, so go for it. And in case you never read much on it, here's a great Riviera thread.

The first game was announced for localization well before it released in Japan. We still haven't heard confirmation that Etrian Odyssey 2 will be coming over here, though I refuse to believe Nich and his fine coworkers would let us down on this score.
