Molyneux: ‘We’re About to Revolutionize AI’ #1

http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?op...=9174&Itemid=2

Quote:
“If you think back to the one thing about Black & White that was most fascinating, you’d have to say it was that creature that learned behavior and seemed, for a certain glimpse, to be alive. Imagine if you could take that and multiply it by a billion…”

I'll believe it when I see it. My guess is that the game will be simple on a visual level, because advanced AI has a difficult time remaining convincing when moving in unnatural ways or when represented with unconvincing visuals. I expect something cute, but smart.

Can't wait to see what it will turn out to be:)

We need an AI, animations, and physics (as in, physical properties of materials) revolution, all combined. The game industry still has a lot to do; we're far from a technical bottleneck.

Doesn't look like he actually says that in the article..

But I'm sure we'll see it as a quote in 2 years when the game comes out and isn't all that

The really terrible question is, what exactly are a billion Molyneux-bred AIs going to be doing?

Because it probably isn't going to be very pleasant.

Actually, the most fascinating thing about Black and White was it's ability to be really fun an interesting the first 5 hours, and then manage to be the biggest piece of crap ever after that.

I loved Fable, but Molyneux really should just shut the hell up and hold the big talk until after he has delivered something worth the big talk. It was difficult to have any sort of decent conversation about the awesome aspects of Fable without the discussions being hijacked by twits crying about the many false promises.

I don't think he targets GAFfers, or anyone who played one of his games. Marketing, in general, doesn't stop at experts of the field. I'm sure the mainstream and hurry-hurry types of press will happily broadcast his message.

DISCLAIMER: I've played Fable: The Lost Chapters and it didn't suck at all.

This seems as good a thread as any to ask this question in; what exactly was Molyneux promising for the original Fable that got so many people hyped for the game (only to disappoint by not actually doing any of it)? I've heard about all this before, but I wasn't paying attention to stuff like that at the time.

He needs to stop hyping before he's shown anything revolutionary...this is looking like a replay of what happened before...but hey, at least it's not as bad as Romero making everyone his bitch with Daikatana

Fable was good, Fable 2 will be a sandbox game so everything's fine. Peter can say whatever he wants as long as the game is long and the world is big, then I'm fine (as long as its more like Oblivion than Two Worlds).
