"Aion: Tower of Eternity" - Media Blowout 2008 - The next step... 56k am cry #1

2007: NC Soft finished, the first beta phase of their upcoming game "Aion - The Tower of Eternity", with a beautiful trailer dedicated to all Beta Players.

Quote:
http://aion.gamona.de/index.php?seit...pid=12&sid=3#9

We created land, built structures, and planted trees and flowers

Creating a world for everyone to explore

Creating a world full of surprises.

We waited patiently

This field...

... This town...

... And this town are full of life, bustling with activity

Finally

New life is all around us

We hope everyone will enjoy the journey they are about to embark upon

All of you will come to own this new world

And we ask for your feedback

Criticism and praise

We appreciate it all

Despite the game not being flawless, you have always been supportive

A true indication of that you are the rightful owners of this world

To our 3,607 testers and all those waiting to join them

Thank you very much...

This is dedicated to all our testers

Now, in February 2008, the next step of the beta phase is going to start soon and i will create a new thread for pictures, trailers and stuff. In this beta break, NC Soft was closly working with the community and added/changed some of the stuff in "Aion - Tower of Eternity". For example, the character designs of the Asmodian and general animations are going to get a slight change.

Why a new thread? Because the last thread is screwing up my internet connection even with DSL.... *lol*

First media blowout thread: Aion - Ultimate Media Blowout Thread (Warning: Picture blowout) - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthre...highlight=Aion

Iam going to start the thread with some new pictures of the "Mau" (NPC race)

Mau

Then we have the Transformation System:

1. Zaiff
Quote:

Class: Scout (ELYOS)
Level: from the start
Special: Speed improvement
Video: http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=_b4xI3Pp1qs

"Zaiffs Ghost" is a alchemic mixture to transform. You can get all what you need at a shop.

2.Kalnipf

Quote:

Race: Scout (Asmodian)
Level: from the start

The same like Zaiff. You need "Kalnip`s Ghost" mixture to transform.

Video: http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=lQe6Kf8ajZA

3. Drake`s Memories

Quote:

Race: Both
Class: All
Level: Finish "Drake`s Memories" quest at level 18 with the FIRST try!

4. Kyliene

5. Puscorn - dont mess with the crop

Quote:

Race: Asmodian
Class: All
Level: 12

You need the mixture "Puscorn`s Seed" to transform into this thing... well its just for fun... ;)

Lycan - Lycan Mage Transformation

Quote:

Race: Asmodian
Class: All
Level: 17 - Part of a search quest... after finishing the quest you will lose the transformation
Video: http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=isvAZjy6uRY

Without the transformation you cant infiltrate the "Black Clawcamp" of the Mau...

So we got:

1. Class Transformations
2. Quest Item Transformations (you get them as a reward)
3. Quest Transformations (Its part of quest)

NC Soft is planning to improve the transformation system for Players and Quests.

Have fun ^^

Oh gawd. My OCD would kill me. I'd fear the Drake`s Memories quest. Leveling up characters to Level 18 until I could best that mission on the first try would END me.

Yet I'd do it. Stupid server-based games with no quickload/reset button.

WRT the screens: To me they don't look half as spiffy as the ones from the other thread. I'm still wary of the grinding aspect/ratio of the game, too. Cautiosly optimistic about it though.

@Funky:

In a interview they said... "Around Summer 2008 almost worldwide" but then they say Q4 2008. I guess it will come out at the end of 2008.

New AION article in PLAY magazine!
Mar 01, 2008 - 1:58 PM - by Mark
PLAY magazine is where I first read about AION back in 2006. They're to blame for this here fansite, to be blunt.

Now, about two years after their first AION article, they've penned another one. This one is great for new people and should bring us some fresh blood. I encourage you all to go out and buy it and give it a read, even if you know everything there is to know about AION. It's a well-written article that gets nearly everything right and even has a bit of insight on NCsoft's Studio 5/AION Team's tribulations during last beta (most all of them got sick).

I don't believe it's legal for me to scan the article or transcribe it, so I won't. I'm going to try and contact PLAY magazine's corporate office today for permission.

Obviously you haven't read anything about Aion, at all.

But I would much rather play a game like that and socialize with fellow players in a friendly manner than raid all day for loot I don't get and is argued about anyway, nevermind that the game looks like a crappy Saturday morning cartoon.

I don't get this.
Are you trying to throw a jab at WoW? If so, you're being foolish, considering on it people socialize, aren't arguing all day about loot or raids... but even if they did, you'd be even more foolish in thinking Aion wont have people arguing about loot and/or raids... all... ALL mmorpgs have that stuff, the socialization aspects and the raiding/loot aspects with the drama and shit... just some are more fun to play (WoW, Lotr:O) while others are a boring grind (all Eastern MMORPGs, with Aion hopefully being an exception).

The point is that screenshots are easy, and gameplay is not. MMOs from Korea have a reputation of being grindfests. The press copy isn't inspiring either:

Quote:
For the first time in the MMORPG genre, Aion™ brings these two game features together in an evolving and seamless system. PvPvE manages the complex relationships and alliances between realms, races and guilds; it also controls the mighty Dragons, a non-player faction and a common enemy to all players, regardless of faction.

How is this new at all? Dragons could easily be replaced with Scourge/Burning Legion/Black Dragonflight/etc/etc/ from WoW.

From what I've read, it appears to be basic MMO grinding ala WoW, probably with less flavor text and more kill 10 rats. It rips character customization from EQ2, with various classes and specializations within that class, and it has an endgame that combines Lineage's keep system with WoW factional PVP.

Soooooo, why should I play? Pretty pictures and vague descriptions of gameplay aren't making me reach for my credit card.

RELEASE SCHEDULE

Aion expected to commercialise after 1st half 2008

The commercialisation process for NCsoft’s highly anticipated MMORPG, Aion, has just become more complicated.

NCsoft revealed that it may be difficult to commercialise Aion within the year’s first half in a conference that took place on the 13th.

NCsoft’s CFO Lee Jae-Ho stated, “It may be difficult to commercialise the game during the first half of the year.” This contradicts the earlier statement that was announced in another conference which stated that there wouldn’t be much problem in commercialising the game by the end of the first half of 2008.

It appears NCsoft’s aim at commercialisation during the first half of 2008 may have become difficult. NCsoft had previously postponed the second phase CBT to March that was originally to take place in February.

Then when will the Open Beta take place?

NCsoft plans to dramatically increase the number of testers in March to make it an Open Beta-sized test. A brief Open Beta will then take place, followed by commercialisation. It seems that even with the sped up process of open beta to commercialisation, the open beta will likely miss the originally planned date in the first half of 2008.

NCsoft’s publicist stated, “Aion’s open beta won’t really play that important of a role. The 2nd phase of CBT will be carried out with a larger number of participants, and we will make the arrangements for commercialisation accordingly.” NCsoft had moved Lineage II right into commercialisation following a brief open beta in the past.

On another note, NCsoft’s representative Kim Tak-Jin has stated that exact details will be explained after six MMORPGs currently under development are showcased to their sponsors. Besides Aion, NCsoft plans to commercialise four other casual games during the first half of the year.

GATHERING SYSTEM

The gathering system in Aion isn’t drastically different from other MMORPGs. Any material that sprouts out of the ground can be gathered if the proficiency level is met, and this allows you to gather materials required for various trade professions.

Aion’s gathering interface consists of success/failure gauges. Gathering mode can be activated by double clicking the target resource. Success is achieved when the success gauge fills up before the failure gauge—and vice versa. The difference in proficiency level between the target resource and the player determines the success rate.

Using ‘gather’ skill

The success gauge fills up quicker if the target resource is much lower in proficiency level than the player, and the failure gauge fills up in smaller amounts.

1. The player may gather resources up to five proficiency levels higher than the player. (The resources that cannot be gathered by the player will have their names displayed in red)
2. The gather skill may be applied on the same target up to five times at maximum. (Exception: Gems can only be gathered once)
3. The spawn locations of the resources are static and they do not change in type when they respawn.
4. The maximum amount a target may be gathered (five times) is shared with other players that may also be gathering the same target.
5. You can store up to 100 resource materials inside a cube.
6. The human gathering proficiency level is retained even after the name of the skill changes upon becoming a Daeva. (But you may no longer gather human materials)
7. You still obtain experience should you fail to gather successfully, albeit a less amount.

The essence of “Ode” exists within all things in the world of Aion. Its role is important enough to define the difference between humans and Daeva as beings who cannot manipulate Ode and those that can. The Divine Power is also a form of Ode, which is obtained when it is released from the enemy upon death, therefore being absorbed by the player and converted into the form of Divine Power.

Aion’s gatherable resources also obtain Ode. The gathering skill can be divided into three types based on the ability to handle Ode.

Human Gathering Skill

Players from Lvl 1 – 9 are treated as humans. Therefore the only way to gather resources is to rely on the human method of pulling them out with your hands. Although it’s only used for a short period of time before ascending to a Daeva, it’s recommended that you work on your proficiency level, for the p. level carries over even after becoming a Daeva. Minimum of 10 to maximum of 15 of proficiency level is recommended, based on the level of the resource with the highest p. level requirement in the noob region, iron.

Daeva’s Gathering Skill (Extract life force, extract Ode)

Players obtain the ability to manipulate the energy of ‘Ode’ upon becoming a Daeva. You may also gather resources floating around in the air with your flight ability. In place of human gathering skill which can no longer be used, you obtain two new types of gathering skills.

The first is Extract Life Force, which can be used on the same types of targets as the materials you were able to gather as a human. Daeva have the ability to extract the essence from the target resources and reconstruct them into their purest state without damaging them as humans would with their tools.

Ode Extraction is a skill that only Daeva are capable of performing. It’s an entirely new type of skill which starts at level 1. The biggest difference from the gathering skill is that the Ode shards spawn only high up in the air. The Ode shards have the same properties as regular resources, but the type of Ode that can be obtained differs based on the chance. One thing to look out for while performing this task is to make sure to keep an eye on the flight duration, for these shards spawn only high up in the air, and should the flight time expire in the middle of the extraction process, you will fall and die.

(To be used with Ode Extraction, Convert Substance)

Since Ode energy is the essence of all substances, it is possible to convert the extracted Ode energy into various substances. Convert Substance skill allows you to perform the said task, and is obtained upon becoming a Daeva. The skill does not come with a skill level. Initially you only have a few options, but additional plans and recipes can be purchased from NPCs with Qina.

The Basics

Various types of resource materials exist, and by looking at these, one can assume which would be used for which profession. Currently there are nine known types of resources.

Zone Info – Racial Gathering Zones

Elyos resources

Asmodian resources

http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...g?t=1205374108

Conclusion

Gathering wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. The P. level seemed to go up pretty quickly. I was able to get my P. level up to 92 in four hours starting at level 20 with P. level of 5. One interesting thing to note is that the resources spread around the map generally correspond with your level.

Aion is something I'm looking hard at to replace WoW with. If it does away with most conventions that I know of and is still really cool, I am hooked.

That is the general thinking of the most WoW Players i know.

Almost 8 out of 10 Clans are thinking about leaving for Aion.

I love the art. I remember seeing this game a while ago and being excited about it, but there's so many freakin MMOs coming out now that it's hard to be excited about all of them.

I think a lot of us are looking to be 'saved' from WoW (at least I am) If they have any sense at all they'll get this to market before WOTLK comes out.

Second Korean CBT Update, and Character customization!
I know we've all been dying to hear about the Korean beta, and now an update has been posted on the official Korean site, and sent out to fansites (thanks Ayase and whoever translated).

We also have a couple of new official screenshots, and a video featuring the upgraded character customization system.

The screenshots can be found right here for now: http://www.aionsource.com/forum/gene...ed-3-13-a.html
The gallery isn't liking me, but we'll get the high quality ones in there soon hopefully.

MEDIT: Screenshot [1] and [2]

The video can be found in a few different spots:
Official Korean Site
Official European site (HD)
YouTube - Thanks to sunshineaion
RapidShare - Thanks to IceTea-OW for uploading

The Announcement reads:

Disclaimer: This document applies only to Korean beta and its participants. All times are written as UTC+9 unless otherwise stated.

Greetings, Legions of Aion!

This notice contains general information about Season 2 of the Aion CBT as well as the schedules and feedback systems.

First of all, we would like to thank you for your patience and loyalty throughout the unexpected delays.

1. Schedule

Season 2 is due to begin on the April 8th and last for 3 weeks, until April 27th.

The detailed schedule is as follows:

- Tue~Fri: 16:00 ~ 23:00 / no limit on play time.

- Sat~Sun: 11:00 ~ 23:00 / no limit on play time.

- Mon: Server Maintenance

2. Tester Eligibility

All the previous testers from CBT Season 1 will automatically be eligible to play in Season 2, and will be given the advantage of inviting a friend to join Aion CBT Season 2.

Testers can send the invitation to a friend between March 24th and April 2nd.

Further information on the invitation event will be posted on the message board in the near future.
Moreover, 5,000 additional testers will be drawn randomly. The results will be released at 2pm on March 24th.

The additional 5,000 testers will not get an invitation to send to a friend.
You can apply to be an Aion tester by simply registering a unified ID on the PlayNC website and through the agreements and surveys on the Aion website. If you apply once, you will go into a draw every time additional testers are picked <To make a PlayNC unified ID Registration>

3. Test Details

We’ve been monitoring testers’ feedback on the starting phase of Aion throughout Season 1. During Season 2, we aim to observe the characters leveling up to medium level, monitor the player economy, and do the server stress test.

Important Changes

Character Information Initialization.
For Season 2, some changes have been made to the game contents—such as the character customization system, quests, items, skills etc.—and the race selection system and the naming policies have been changed.

Going through all these changes, the decision was made that testers wouldn’t be able to play with their previous characters and, unfortunately, all the characters had to be erased.

We apologize to all the testers from Season 1 and thank you for your co-operation.

The ‘Piece of Eternity’ items that were collected through Season 1 will be recorded separately before resetting the characters, and will be used as a reference when we are selecting Guardians/Archons.
New regions for Elyos and Asmodians and contents for level 20~34 characters will be added.
Improved combat system and a direct portal (pathway between the two camps) will be added.
Further updates on the main features of Season 2 will be announced in the near future.

4. Feedback System

As before, testers can post their opinions in various ways such as in-game surveys, discussion board posts, etc.

In addition, beginning in Season 2, FGIs (Focus Group Interviews/Meetings) will be held every week so that testers can express things that they could not online.

Detailed information for FGIs will be announced in the near future.
All the opinions and questions will be seriously discussed internally and will be answered promptly through the development notes.

The Aion team will try our best, always.

Thank you.

Great Aion is growing each day.

I saw some stuff on this game a while back I think. Is this the one where your character has some kind of flight mode or something? So apart from the good art what make this game "The next step"?
