Sony just announced an official PlayStation Portable stand plus remote #1

At least this is what I believe this is looking at the pics

Coming in Japan in April.
Press release (in Japanese): http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/release/080304c.html
EDIT:
Actually it's a "cradle" with video-out. Found the English press release
Quote:
Tokyo, March 4, 2008 – Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ), a division of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) responsible for business operations in Japan, today announced that it would release “Cradle”(PSP-S360) for the new slim and light PSP® (PSP-2000) in Japan on April 24th, 2008 at a recommended retail price of 4,800 yen (including tax).

A set of “Cradle & D Terminal AV Cable” (PSPJ-15013) will also become available at a recommended retail price of 6,500 yen (including tax). “Cradle” will allow users to enjoy various entertainment content such as movies, videos and “1 Seg” viewing by simply operating supplied card type remote control and also to charge the battery. “Cradle & D Terminal AV Cable” fits for those who wish to enjoy PSP’s high quality entertainment content on TVs in homes.

SCEJ will continue to expand the PSP platform and create a new world of computer entertainment with these new offerings.

That PSP is almost exactly the same color as my old 1979 Datsun 280zx. Its color was called "Champagne". Looks very similar except maybe it was a little bit lighter.

Edit: Found a picture of a 280z with the color :)

The stand doesn't seem to accommodate the component cable, too bad.

my XBR4 remote is awesome.

and if this let me play PSP games full screen on my TV with a PS2 or PS3 controller, I would buy it.

The remote looks like a camcorder/camera remote. i.e. it's supposed to be as small as possible. What do you expect it to look like?

I'll bet that remote is about the size of a credit card.

my thing is why the hell would you need a remote for the psp? I mean really how far away can you sit/lay and still enjoy a movie with the psp screen.

Are they just recycling the DualShock button fabrication for the remote's buttons? Can't tell from the pics.

Are Japanese people like 2 feet tall or something? I just don't understand their aversion to high-def gaming and their love of these little game portables.

The neat thing about the PSP is that you can use it as a portable media player that can be hooked up to a TV and play DVD quality (or better - depending on how you encoded) video.

So you just use the remote while you're kicking back watching a movie on the TV. Useful for when you're traveling or at a friend's house.

Just because you can't see the usefulness doesn't mean it's useless.

I think it's quite cool.

That's incredibly useful indeed as I use this to show cartoons to the kids on the big screen. Having the remote is so ++++ to me. Me wants.

Cradle seems decent. Wouldn't get much use in my house with the PS3 and all; not to mention my owning a launch - ergo a non-slim - PSP. =/

Also since the remote is probably IR you'll be able to train a normal remote to control the base. So if you don't like the little tiny remote, use a different one!

lol and here I thought most people in Japan had some sort of an HDTV. Hell they've got superfast internet, you'd think they would be up to par on TV's.

If the price is right when it is released here I may pick it up. Remote looks okay, kinda like my digicam remote.

Useful to lug to hotels.

Does this work with the fat PSPs?

If it does, it's pretty obvious why they're releasing it, and it's nice that they're covering earlier adopters with TV-out if they want it.

If it doesn't support fat PSPs, then it's a bit meh. Although I suppose it might be handy for some people if the AV-out cable is short, and they don't want to be getting off the couch and going up to their PSP to change stuff.

edit - oh..just the slim...it would have made PERFECT sense to be compatible with the fat PSPs too. I guess they just wanna keep selling slims to early adopters :|

I wish they let me play games on my TV with my slim as opposed to just UMD videos. Not everyone has a progressive scan TV.

Yes! The TV-out cable is removable! Great for me having not bought the stand alone cable yet. Hope they release this over here with a removable component cable.

There are cheaper and possibly better ones off deal extreme like this one:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11045

They range from $10 to $20 depending on what you want with it and who makes it. This seems awfully pricey in comparison. I mean geez, you still need to buy cables?

If Sony don't include RSS Channel on the PS3 I may have to get this just for a lazy way of watching the 1UP Show.
