Guitar Hero goes on Tour - Confirmed for Nintendo DS #1

On my daily check the OFLC, I noticed that Guitar Hero On Tour had been classified for the Nintendo DS, We've had the patent registration, and the many hints but now we can finally call it I suppose.

Quote:
If it wasn’t already blatantly obvious with the patent registration and hints from Activision executives the Guitar Hero franchise is now barring confirmation from Activision itself heading to the Nintendo DS. The OFLC's website has been updated with a listing for Guitar Hero on Tour, the registration for the game specifically mentions the Nintendo DS (if it were Mutliplatform it would say).

Did a search about the web and it seems like it was never confirmed 100%? Well is now.

sauce

Real question is, how the fuck is Guitar Hero going to translate on to the Nintendo DS?

sorry if this has already been confirmed

so there's Aerosmith, this, and the yet-to-be-announced-but-we-all-know-it's-coming GH4 -- what else for this year...?

Well, in its defense, at least it's the most necessary upcoming GH game besides the inevitable GHIV.

Well, if Surfer Girl is to be believed, it's "an action-packed Guitar Hero experience like no other."

Not quite confirmed, and I doubt that Activision would do two band-specific releases in one year.

Stylus for strumming, face buttons for chords? Could work alright. I don't know if the touch screen has the accuracy required though.

Oh, I doubt that'll be it. If it's that, then they'll have to contend with "Jam Sessions did it first".

I'm predicting a guitar controller that can hold the DS in it.

I think it'll probably work a lot like Jam Sessions. The d-pad chose your notes while you strummed with the stylus.

If anything, I think they'd go with a neck attachment that goes in the GBA slot and you strum by hitting any of the buttons.

It's wholly possible, man. Imagine holding the guitar and having the DS on the side of the guitar - you'd be able to see the screen and react to what was coming up on it.

Touch controls would make the game impossible. Besides the fact that it'd move too fast to play without being the single greatest rhythm master ever born, your hand would obscure it too much.

All the can be said is that any gameplay concept that involves "touch" is broken because of those two reasonings, which leads me to believe it'll be an accessory or face buttons only.

I completely agree with you.

I just thought the idea putting the DS into a Guitar Hero III controller was hilarious.

Guitar Hero itself wasn't a unique idea when Harmonix first took a shot at it.

My big worry is the sound quality of the songs... I know the DS has some pretty decent speakers, but how many songs are they going to be able to put on that itty bitty cart and keep the quality from not sucking?

If they're clever and keep the rest of the presentation assets small, 18-20 would be very doable if EBA is any indication. I bet this game will play best with headphones too.

Maybe, but I definitely don't want it to. Five buttons in a row on a plastic fretboard, please.

You're all approaching this wrong. In Guitar Hero Goes on Tour, you take the role of your band's manager--booking their gigs, warding off hoards of screaming fans, balancing their budget and helping them sell out as fast as you possibly can! Scrape, claw and maul to the top--take your talentless band from zero to HERO with your inestimable talents! Or, if maximizing your profits isn't enough, go online and compete with other tough-as-nails managers for reviews and CD sales! DS owners, prepare to get rocked! $59.99 plus shipping and handling. Compatible guitar stylus sold separately.

Has anyone actually confirmed Van Halen? At all, let alone for this year? Or is this all conjecture based on that one interview with an Activision exec?

No one confirmed it, but there was the long standing rumor of 4 guitar heroes this year. So who knows? This is basically 3 announced in the period of a month. I figure Monday will be GH4.

Will they team up with Robert Rodriguez to develop El Mariachi: The Video game? I want to play as a Mariachi band in a video game one of these days since consoles can handle at least four controller inputs at once. RR is a great composer for his movies, and I would expect a rocking soundtrack from that.

If they make a good rhythm game for DS, I'll be interested.

If they force a guitar where it isn't needed, no thanks.

Replace the cheerleaders/agents with guitar players and you're golden!

It'll probably be like Jam Session or something, though. :/

Quote:
Guitar Hero DS was announced by Vicarious Visions' design manager Adrian Earle on September 7, 2007, at Austin GDC '07.[10] The game will use the 3-D graphics instead of 2-D sprites, and the player will not use the touchscreen, but instead will use a new peripheral that is still in the design phase for the Nintendo DS.

On January 19, 2008, a filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office revealed that Activision registered a title for "computer game software and related instruction manual sold together as a unit" under the title Guitar Hero: On Tour for an as of yet unknown installment.[11]

Fixed for personal wishes.

Besides crazy peripherals, they could just go old-school and make the game play like Amplitude/Frequency. Neversoft did have those stupid use a controller achievements in GHIII, maybe they really like to play that way.

I'm all for Gitaroo Man 2. Preferably on a system where I don't hate the analoge sticks!
