Supply constraints are the new Area 51. Seriously.

For Nintendo & Microsoft. There's no way Nintendo is still producing 1.8M Wiis a month, yet selling per month around/under 300K in the US and under 300K in Japan, and then leaving what, 1.2M in Europe? Yeah right. Nintendo's just as guilty of playing the "supply constraint" card as MS, based on their 1.8M a month looking more now like 1M a month.

The only difference is the Wii is in more demand, but I have trouble swallowing those 1.8M a month numbers we heard a while ago when NA and Japan are selling so low.

We'll see tomorrow, but unless a healthly 500K+ Wiis sold in the US, I don't see where those 1.8M Wiis are going.

I don't know, something's fishy. We bought this excuse for January (retailers didn't order enough / it made sense after rushing the hardware before the holidays). We've been told to expect similar results in February, which makes less sense, it's not like this is a brand new product.

Now, we're being hinted at to expect supply contriants again for March? Lol I say. Lol.

Yes, now it is time for the OEMs to make their money. This is why Sony is going to have to stand pat on PS3 pricing for a while.

Why, that's the month that GTA IV will be released!

I'm expecting another 360 supply shortage around June 12th or so.

I know, I read between the lines. He said by April it will be in good shape, so to me, that counts as hinting at March may or may not be ok.

There is no information that manufacturers have raised their price to distributors and retailers.

The 'news' in the link states its based on price-grabber data. In other words, its retail taking advantage of increased BluRay exposure and sales.

We still only get a couple of 360s every couple of weeks. It's been two years, what's going on?

We have been told in an email that they're going to have plenty by GTA4. Which means a dozen a week during that month compared to the two we get now.

To put things in perspective, my store has been fully stocked all month. We haven't sold out. In fact Elites are not selling at my store at all. I've seen other stores in stock as well. I worked at a different store in my district two days this week and guess what? They had full stock as well. There is no supply issues now.

For a long time, I've been of the opinion that the 360 was a shoe in for 2nd place behind Nintendo this gen, but with the Blu-ray victory, and Sony's willingness to continue to cut prices I'm starting to think that the PS3 may have a chance in the long term. I think Microsoft has to make a bigger effort at attracting consumers. A price cut, built in wi-fi (why was this not included in the first place?), and optional Blu-ray on high end models would go a long way towards reaching that space. A model that matches the PS3 40 gig feature for feature at the same price or lower would be the way to go - along with a lower priced option to compete with the Wii.

Here is what Sony had to say about the "industry standard" for a product to be considered in stock for March 07 NPD numbers. So unless every store has 30 360 units, it's not "in stock".

"The industry standard for a product to be considered to be in an "in-stock" position for a store is 30 units per store. This would be the level you would see for a PS2 or Xbox 360. At this level, retailers will feature a product in their weekly advertising circulars. If you are not at this level, retailers can't guarantee consumers will find one if they go into the store and they most likely won't support your product in weekly ads. Although you can indeed find PS3s in stores currently, we are no where near an "in-stock" position."

What value? They can brag about lowest entry cost, but with the over priced proprietary peripherals they are not the best value.

I know that it's essentially a staple to bring up the $99 wi-fi, but it really is a bit silly. My 360 is connected to a wireless bridge that I paid about $30 for and it works fine. Just because they sell an accessory does not mean that it's the only choice for consumers. We don't all buy official cables either.

Shhh the longer they're out and no one buys them the better chance(hopefully) I might have with a clearance sale. Even if the Halo bundle looks pretty ugly it would be perfect for me if it was 199. I need a 360 for the new Tales game and I can handle a red ring of death or two for 199.

Well that is us man people think that if it's branded by something to the original product that is the way just must go with. I did that once upon a time but now I am savy son.

Hmmm. I guess now they're claiming retroactively that when they didn't go 2:1 in December 2007 they weren't "in stock" either. Funny, if they didn't care to mention that until now, they did their shareholders a real disservice.
