Federal Communication Commission already proved to be the fastest source of info about upcoming changes to PS3 lineup.

Now it is time again - new SKU with the same model number as 80GB model but with different FCC ID (AK8CBEH1101 vs AK8CBEH1100) spotted at FCC web site.

Apparent from the test results published there is that significant changes were made to bluetooth and Wifi modules.

Its hard to say if it really worse or better since antenna gain is only one of the parameters determining quality of received signal, but changes are definitely there.

Photos and more info are under short confidentiality agreement, which expires April 14 2008, so you can expect more info after that.

So whats your take on it? New SKU in time for DS3 and MGS4? 45nm Cell and/or 65nm RSX?

I'm just not seeing the relevence here. All PS3's play all PS3 games.

As far as tweaks to the bluetooth and wifi ... you do realize there were probably 20 revisions of the PS2 ... several of the X-box ... etc. People just weren't as aware of it then.

That's because the SKU changes very rarely had a negative affect on the end user, unlike the PS3's (I'd include the 360 but I can't think of any instances of SKU downgrading). I'm glad I bought the 60GB model but I wonder what'll happen if the console decides to die.

It's the return of the 80GB unit. The logical thing to assume, until hard information comes in, is that software-assisted BC is coming back with it (because that's a major feature of the old 80GB SKU).
