Stolen Wii -- Can you get the VC games back in the future?
#1
Ugh, I really didn't want to make a new topic, but I have really no idea about this (and I did a search, but couldn't find any topics related to this -- sorry!).
Anyway, yesterday they broke into my house and stole ALL my electronics, including my DS and my Wii (along with Fire Emblem inside, and many other games -- those BASTARDS!!!!). To keep a long story short, what I want to know is -- in case I actually manage to get a Wii in the future -- if I can get back all my VC games and Internet Channel. Is it even possible? If it is, what should I do? |

I would actually try calling Nintendo first. In the event that they actually connect to a service, I wonder if Nintendo can find them. Of course they can always delete your user data, but then that makes the VC games unusable also which would null the concept of "no VC replacements unless the console is in our hands".
try calling them. I make no promises and am giving you no hope, but at least call them. |

The reason I say he probably won't get them back (and I do agree he should try and call nintendo) is that even if he has them transferred there could still be a Wii out there with the games (if they aren't erased) and we all know how paranoid Nintendo is about this.
However, I am curious how Nintendo will answer. Code_Link, can you post back with whatever result you get from contacting Nintendo? |

Yeah guys, I'll give it a shot.
I actually have no idea if I had my Wii linked to MyNintendo, how do you do that? I did have the console itself registered to MyNintendo account, along with all the retail games, but I have no idea if the VC games are automatically added via WiiConnect or something. And no, I didn't have insurance. Double ouch, I guess. Anyway, I'll send an e-mail to Nintendo and see what they say. Thanks for the help. |

This happened to me around this time last year. Insurance covered the replacement, so that's not much of a problem, and I was always kinda amused by the irony that they didn't take the PSU or the sensor bar - back when third party sensor bars didn't really exist - so they had a largely useless unit at the time.
Anyhow, contacted Nintendo, and to cut a long story short: They can replace your VC titles if you can supply your Wii's serial number. Which is only printed on the Wii itself. Despite the fact that I had most of the remaining hardware - with their serial numbers - and the Wii code - which ought to be unique to that Wii - they couldn't help me. I'll be interested to hear if you get a different story; I'm given to understand that NoA are rather more helpful than NoE, so they might be more forthcoming with help. |

I already had a my.nintendo.com account to get the zelda collector's disc. when it asked me if I wanted to link them when I first started my Wii I thought "heh, why not?"
Nintendo should update the Wii Shop firmware so that if you have a nintendo.com account you can link it, and if you don't have one you have to create one. especially if they require functionality like this to recover games under certain circumstances. fortunately you CAN always link your accounts after the fact. You're only screwed if you link your account and later want to link to a different account. |

About a year ago, I had my house burglarized. They stole all my electronics EXCEPT my Wii, which they dropped behind the entertainment center, screwing up the drive. I called Nintendo and not only did the offer to repair my Wii completely for free, they also provided me with my DS's serial number (I had it registered with a mynintendo account) which ended up getting my DS back from the pawn shop the jerks sold it to (which lead to the crooks being caught). Not only that, but on the phone, Nintendo was extremely understanding of my situation and did a lot to make me feel like they actually gave a crap that my stuff was stolen.
Sony was about middle of the road. They did what I asked (changed my station account's password) but was all business about it. Microsoft, on the other hand, were the biggest bunch of jerks there has ever been in the history of jerks. They actually tried to get me to upgrade to a gold account when I wanted them just to change the password or otherwise make the account inaccessible, and they didn't even do that, so my 360 sat in a pawn shop for two months auto logging in to my account and getting Madden achievements. But probably the most insulting thing was that even after explaining that my house was just burglarized and my 360 taken, they'd still say things that were incredibly insensitive (like "have a nice day"). Nintendo will help you out. It's what they do. |
