My search didn't bring up him as Nicholas. I wont call out his name, but first name initial is T last name is a Mc something from Berkeley, CA. =)
Yeah, that was the other possibility I mentioned. If the T stands for Tom.

We must have used different methods if you never came up with two names. Let's compare notes sometimes.

You're good. :lol

I love how GAF turned this into a Hunt for the Truth. Very entertaining.

hahah. Thanks.... oh, and congrats. I'd love to do that type of thing, but I'm merely a lowly systems administrator for a large corporation.

If you're not Nicholas Suttner, that makes you Tom McShea, yes. It was one or the other.

...And I figured out how Davedough went about his search. He just looked up your XBL tag and/or AIM. A little simpler than what I did. :lol

Technically, you're wrong

I have a space in my last name

Now that my identity is out there, anyone else feel like bragging about their job? Aren't there any cowboys or astronauts on GAF?

That got me a start. But a domain name search on his blog is what got me the ability to call his house (cell?) if I wanted to =P.

Edit: And btw... Nicholas Suttner's tag is "rocksolidaudio"

Congrats on getting a dream job.

A few years back I was lucky enough to get a job I never thought i'd get, Game Design Teacher.

It's a lot of fun to teach and doesn't feel like a job at all, even setting up a gamers club where the students can come play Wii and Rock Band.

RockSolidAudio works for 1UP and is a member here. Doesn't change how weird this is.

Wait... what? That's a job? What do you do? What level do you teach (college, high school, trade?)? That sounds pretty great.

I teach 11-16 year olds but the students are usually 11-14. I basically teach them about basic programming and they use the skills to make their own game near the end of the course.

I also teach Flash Animation which is fun but I prefer to teach Game Design as it's nice to see all the kids crazy ideas turn into something playable.

Setting up this Gamers thing as a weekly event, we don't have a big budget so i'm bringing in my games and consoles for them to play at the moment.

I think the best day was when one student said to me, "thank you for helping me make my dream game".

If you're interested there's a showcase page on my learning site, learnbyluke.

I've been a freelance writer for about 6 years, the last 4 have been in the gaming industry. Achievement unlocked!

Also, when you're in this business, you can't hide, so don't even try. You are now hanging out there and everyone will tear apart your every word.

I just got an offer for my dream job today: video game reviewer. For a real website (I had been been writing for a site you've never heard). Needless to say, I'm pumped. My first day is May 5th, looks like the best Cinco de Mayo ever.

Anyone else have their dream job? I'm not even sure how I should react at this point. I've been gearing up for this gig since I was four years old.

If it's needless to say, why did you say it? you suck at writing!
just kidding; I'm jealous

:lol Sorry, I already have my dream job.

I do get a lot of PMs from people asking for help though, and I usually do it just for kicks.

Congrats on the job, please update this thread if you take it (I'm assuming you will).

Past that, how come you said you'd want to work for Rare? IMO there are a million devs I'd rather work for at this point in time over Rare, their heyday ended yeaaaars ago!

So if this is your dream job, does that mean you aren't gonna leave 1up to work for a developer?

I wasn't hired by 1UP, though I have done freelance work for them.

Oh, I've already accepted. In a heartbeat.

As for Rare, I think it would be a blast to work for them. I'm not really qualified, though, since I can't program or draw and have no interest in PR. It's more a pipe dream than something I can actually do. Unlike my dream of owning the Niners, that's legit.

I've been fortunate to have a couple of dream jobs. My first game development job, I worked on a fairly awesome game for an extremely awesome company.

Now I teach programming and game design. It's an awesome job, and not just because it takes a lot less hours than development, so I have time to work on an indie flash game on the side.
