As grueling as it sounds, I'd like to get me foot in the door by doing some testing. Too bad Canada hardly has any fucking studios around to apply.

That's pretty much anywhere in North America but California.

errr. I live in Montreal and as of today, there are at lest 3 major compagnies and a lot of smaller ones searching for testers.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
As a developer, I can say with candid certainty, that we tend to look down on QA people as overpaid brainless parasites. That being said, I don't want to do their job, and they do serve a purpose when they actually have a clue about what they're doing.

Look for Volt. They hire testers for a lot of companies like EA. I think that Volt also has their own testing facility in Montreal.

Depends on the company. I've been in a couple, and the quality of the QA department and overall attitudes towards them have ranged from what you describe all the way to the other spectrum where QA leads are involved in a project relatively early and also regularly consult with dev leads and other execs.

That being said, there's no substitute for an excellent QA group, especially if you've dealt with mediocre ones before.

Awesome. Look at that Sony jacket

The Jacket David Jaffe has on is a Twisted Metal 2 jacket. The Underground held a contest to give away that jacket and a Jet Moto jacket. Maybe David can speak about how well-received purchasing the jackets were. My motto is if there's money left over in the budget, why not spend it to promote the game?

PlaystationMuseums obsession with Jaffe's wife is pretty creepy.

In all honesty, she is gorgeous.

swear that asian dude was breast feeding that kid.

You must not have children yet. The kid is clearly sleeping against his chest. I know it was only a joke, but I thought seeing his child sleeping was cute. SCEA was very good about family matters from what I heard.

Wow...and wtf at Calypso. The voice acting sounds like some half-porno on showtime/cinemax

His name was High Octane. I think Jaffe should have kept that ending video. He did say he wanted to be a movie producer once.

What happened to Mike Giam after War of the Monsters?

Only he can say, but last I knew he was at THQ. We all agree David Jaffe is a gaming god, but Giam was just as good IMHO. I mean the original WarHawk and Jet Moto 1 are classics! Giam AND Jaffe did design MickeyMania together, and the PlayStation version rocked.

I want to test games, too bad I don't live in CA =(

HAHA! Read this if you want to be a tester:

Wow, interesting to see how much the industry has changed in what, 10-15 years? Just to see them testing PS1 games is really weird.

I know a couple of people that do this for Sony Liverpool. I've applied to work there once or twice myself.

It sounds awesome and boring at the same time

I said "Pretty much". Face it, unless you live in few select places, becoming a tester for video games will be a hard reality to reach.

Any company that would "look down" on any employee no matter what their position is, not a company I would ever want to work for... ever.

The thing about the temp agency is 100% true. You aren't really working for SCEA. You're working for the temp agency and are not technically allowed to say that you worked for SCEA on your resume. You have to put the name of the temp agency and that you were under contract at SCEA.

Pretty much... but I can't talk too much since I work at Wal-Mart PT.

All I can hope to do is find a good job after I graduate in a couple of years. I could never do this for the rest of my life.

QA testers, lulz. A necessary evil for the industry but not a job anyone should strive for.

The stories I've heard about QA testers SINCE joining the industry are even worse than the ones I heard before joining.

Seriously if you want to get paid to write shit like,

"The volume on the menus is too low, please fix it." Without any indication of how low is too low, or how high it should be, then by all means become a tester!

I hate having to reproduce the bugs that QA testers check off, I can't imagine actually having to find and document them in the first place.
