Cave Story and N are good ones.

If you like vertical shooters, definitely try Warning Forever. You just fight a succession of bosses, and how you take them out decides the configuration of the next boss. Fantastic.

If you want something weird, see if you can find Super Cosplay War Ultra.

And Beats of Rage is pretty good.

RTCW:ET, Subspace, or America's Army. Oh man, rough decision.

Total playtime would probably go to America's Army though Subspace came close.

One question:

Did anyone actually read my first post or at least watch the vid? Knowing this board, everyone one just came in, named their favorite, and left.

Urban Terror http://www.urbanterror.net/news.php
is my latest addiction. Team based FPS, think counterstrike meets quake 3. Map design can be incredible. CTF on Subway and Prague come to mind as standouts.
I own nearly every recent online fps across all platforms yet I still play this nightly.

DoD basically occupied every summer of mine for the past 3 or 4 years. Now, finally, I have moved onto something else: Team Fortress 2. I assume you've tried it (as all should have), but if not I think you owe it to yourself to do so.

As soon as I get off my crappy laggy satellite internet, I will return to playing hours of America's Army. I love that they continue to support the game with new maps and improvements.

Edit: It also didn't hurt that they gave me a disc-based copy after doing the virtual army experience at a local airshow.

I guess I should. I was never a fan of the original TF (blasphemy, I know), so I never really had a reason to play TF2. The price is definitely right now to pick it up.

Which DoD server did you spend most of your time on?

Trackmania is certainly up there, but the best one is definitely Wolfenstein ET. Couldn't ask for a more complete downloadable game, and I loved every hour (day? week? ) spend in that game.

Voxelstein is not only the best free PC game, it is the best game EVER.

Does shareware count? Because I mean, a lot of shareware games in the early '90s were awesome, because they gave you like half the game for free or cheap. Wacky Wheels shareware was better than Super Mario Kart. Yeah, I said it.

N, Cave Story, and Knytt are all good choices as well.

Freeride Earth. It was a really basic open gl snowboarding game where you just steered down procedurally generated hills forever. I played it for a really long time though.
