Joe Satriani to have songs in Guitar Hero IV and Rock Band 2 #1

From a Guitar World interview:

Guitar World: Since we last spoke for an extended interview, two of the biggest pop-culture phenomena have been Guitar Hero and Rock Band. What’s you’re take on them?

Joe Satriani: It’s funny you ask: Both game systems have just licensed “Satch Boogie” and “Surfing With the Alien” for upcoming versions.

Problem is, he doesn't specify which song is for which game

Whichever one gets Surfing with the Alien, I buy DAY. FREAKING. ONE.

For those n00bs that have no idea, Satriani was responsible for that *awesome* guitar riff that was used in those old-school Sony Walkman commercials.

This is brilliant news

I hope they use Ceremony and Chords of Life. Probably end up with Summer Song or Big Bad Moon though. :P

*faints*

I love Devil's Slide... that better be in it!

EDIT:
“Satch Boogie” and “Surfing With the Alien”
Wooo! Still makes my day!

EDIT2: Gonna listen to some of his stuff now.

Wasn't Summer Song in one of the Gran Turismo games? Forget which one but it also had Juice By Steve Vai.

As for more Satch tracks, would love to see Flying in a Blue Dream :)

Best instrumental guitar player alive. These songs are going to be ridiculously hard to play though.

I vote for The Extremist, real nice heavy blues-rock riff.

They need to put some of the cuts from Crystal Planet in there... And Borg Sex would be a nice pick.

I thought a vocal part was required for Rock Band, but maybe not?

Still no Steve Vai or Dream Theater? How can these games be called Guitar Hero or Rock Band without them? Hows about some AC/DC?

That wasn't Satriani

Much like every soundtrack on filesharing services was attributed to John Williams, the Top Gun theme is often mislabeled as a Satriani piece.

It was actually by Steve Stevens

At first I was surprised by all of the Satriani love, then I remembered what a geek he is.

Love the guy and his play, but I'm happy they chose those tracks as his vocals are the suckety-suck.

I would have picked something other than Satch Boogie, but man, do want. Throw in some Eric Johnson and Vai...

Fuck, just make a G3 (1st gen) edition of Guitar Hero.

This. And if Rock Band can get The Extremist as one of the album downloads, I'll take one of those Stratocaster controllers and chrome it out, and learn to play Rock Band.

Given the marketshare situation, no hit act should give either franchise an exclusive without a moneyhat.

Satriani is an amazing guitar player, and very humble person.

I wouldn't mind "Ten Words".

Besides Joe, Paul Gilbert would be awesome.

"Technical Difficulties" would work out well.

I'd also love to see Yellow Matter Custard get in on the action. A supergroup that just played Beatles songs.

Paul Gilbert on Guitar

Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater on drums.

Neal Morse on vocals.

Matt Bissonette on bass (sometimes plays with Joe Satriani)

Their cover of "My guitar gentle weeps" is insane. The ground goes nuts from Paul Gilberts playing.
