The Japanese site for Dragon Quest 5 DS has finally seen an update.
There isn't a whole lot there, but it's no longer that silly teaser image. Hopefully the media blitz will start, similar to DQ4's.

Nothing has been shown of VI at all yet. We're supposed to get IV in August, maybe possibly somehow V later in '08.

Yeah, they just take a while to load. There are character profiles and lots of new screenshots.

Yeah, that's the NTSC subtitle for DQV. But they also registered a subtitle for VI, so V's isn't necessarily an indication that it'll be out in '08, just that it's on the way eventually.

I can't even believe how incredibly similar many of the screenshots in that mural look to the PS2 version. The volcano and waterfall cave shots, especially.

Well, it's the one I call the best in the series. It's also my favorite game, period. 5 is really popular, but I think 3 is generally considered "the best" by the majority of the fans.

Yes, but I don't know why. I liked VI a hell of a lot more-- more interesting story, and a decent class system.

Might have to pick this up when I'm in Japan, thanks. I usually here 5 as being the favorite among the big fans of the series.

It's one of the fan favorites, for sure. But I'm not sure about "best", personally. It does have the most unique story though, not only in DQ, but one of the most unique jrpg stories ever. It can be really emotional, and when you finally complete it feels like you finished this epic friggin journey that few games offer.

It's the only one I've managed to play all the way through- although I couldn't really give a reason why. I haven't played any beyond 5 and a little of 6 and 8. I should look up information on 4...

There is no official confirmation, but rumors. DQ4 got ESRB ratings and the titles of the other two were registered in the US Patent Office. It's bound to happen soon.

As much as I would love for that to happen, I'm pretty sure these are going to get their own releases months apart like FF3 and FF4 DS. Otherwise it would be too good of a deal.

I don't think they will. They didn't mess with DQ4 DS (aside from some minor changes only the hardcore of the most hardcore will notice), at least. I doubt they will make any drastic changes to DQ5 DS.

Yeah, I fully expect the actual battles to be identical to DQ4 DS. I am wondering what the "new life choice" will be, and also if they plan on changing anything like they changed the immigrant town thing in DQ4 DS. I think the new specialty goods system could use some refinement, at the very least.

I'm also still curious to find out if they're going to put DQ5's battle formation in or not.

Those screens are amazing, I wish that they'd go for the high-quality sprites for more games rather than the FF3DS 3d engine they use for everything

Um, I'm pretty sure the only games that used the FF3DS engine would be FF3DS and FF4DS.
