Tony Hawk may be taking a bit of a break, but it seems Activision has other plans for the Call of Duty series as they will be making COD5 available for six different platforms (PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, Nintendo DS and PS2) when released later this year.

Activision publishing president and CEO Mike Griffith comments: “For Call of Duty, we’re bringing the intensity of the recent Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare title to yet a new military theatre to engage our significantly larger user base which nearly doubled last year”

As we already know Infinity Ward will not be involved in this version, and Treyarch will instead be taking the reigns for the PS3 and Xbox 360 efforts. It is not known if they will also develop the PC, Wii, Nintendo DS and PS2 version, or if they will be farmed out to other studios.

Furthermore, it is believed the plot of the game will once again be set World War II for COD5, but to change things up a bit will instead place more emphases on the Pacific Campaign rather than remaining in Western Europe this time round.

Seems like this Mike Griffith doesn't know that they nearly doubled their users because of COD4 which didn't come out on 50 different consoles. Why cant they just focus on 360, PS3 and PC.......... just the next gen plz. Its the Ps2 that ruins the process.

IW demnds more than a year to make a CoD game plus they probably wanna do something else. CoD 4 was originally something else until Activision asked them to make it part the CoD series

OH yeah, I totally missed out on that. I am surprised...it isn't coming out on PSP. I love my PSP... but the previous COD game wasn't the best.. it was pretty ok.. but hard to control. But if they can make it on DS..why not PSP.

I thought the online play in COD3 was fairly enjoyable. If they take a lot of notes from COD4's multiplayer, I could see me buying it.

Mr. Griffith, I don't think World War II counts as a "new" military theatre for the CoD franchise. Unless of course it's not a WWII game in which case colour me surprised.

Hey, I am going to say it out LOUD. I actually really liked COD3. It was different, and was a very well made game (Compared to other crappy FPSs). Its just that I feel sorry or sad for Treyarch that they have to make a game and right away be compared to IW (One of the top Dev in the Industry).
COD3 was a fun game. And I still play it to this day, for a change of pace. And I think COD5 is going to be a good game.

The only other developer I want handling the PC version is Splash Damage. Call of Duty:United Offensive is still the shit and still has features that I wanted incorporated into CoD4.

Oh shit, they are going into the pacific campaign? Everyone wrap it up, Call of Duty series is going down like the Medal of Honor series. Well, at least it isnt vietnam, if that were the case there would be no chance of redemption with CoD6.

Hopefully they have an ANZAC campaign. The only reason I'd consider buying it. Though they won't. It'll probably be Americans and then they'll have English people magically doing what the Aussies did for the other campaign

I would like to see a IW helmed Vietnam Call of Duty game. I imagine it would be quite terrifying.

Just garbage, I had to go back to CoD2 for online play until CoD4 came out.

IW doing a vietnam game to me would be interesting. I think it would either suck complete and total ass (almost like an even worse version of CoD4 single player) or it could be totally awesome if they were able to capture the feeling of it all and got away from the boring scripted monster closet stuff.

A lot of casual people will pick it up definitely not knowing IW didn't make it and perhaps even thinking its modern warfare like the last one they bought.

Treyarch attempted to nerf the kar in CoD3 because of how reliable it was in CoD2 and all they did was fuck it up.

They fucked alot of things up actually.
