Sega and Platinum Games sign a three game deal (embargo broken, now with videos) #1

Sega signs up Platinum's trio

Michael French Today, 1:58pm

Reports say new Japanese independent by former Capcom execs is working on three titles

According to a report from Videogaming247 (which itself comes from a now-removed reportedly embargo-breaking story), Sega has signed up to publish three titles from Japaneseoutfit Platinum Games.

The studio, famously formed by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and leads from Capcom's closed Clover studio, was founded last year. It was named as one of our top 10 studios to watch at the start of the year.

The games in development for Sega are, reportedly: Bayonetta, directed by Devil May Cry creator Hideki Kamiya, featuring a character with guns on her feet; a DS sci-fi RPG called Infinite Line; and a Wii title called MadWorld allegedly styled like the Sin City comics and movie.

Slightly more descriptive descriptions from Kotaku:

• Bayonetta, directed by DMC creator Hideki Kamiya, and is described by the site’s correspondent as a “stylish action game” with “a witch battling angels”. Apparently she has guns on her feet.
• A science-fiction RPG for the DS called Infinite Line, where you play as a starship captain, customising your ship and crew.
• A Wii game called MadWorld. ...it’s, “Black and white Sin City graphics, with red blood. Ultra ultra violent. Fatality moves like shoving a post through someone’s head. Chainsaw on your right arm.”

I really hope this is true, being a huge fan of Sega and Clover.

Finally some concrete info on what they are working on. Bayonetta sounds wild. I can't wait to see it. I love the fact that these guy's games are equal parts style and substance.

Do want the DS rpg from these guys.

Edit. Come on Sega, go for worldwide simultaneous releases. Japan hates you nowadays anyway.

I have a feeling that this could be legit. After all, isn't SEGA's Gamers' Day this week? I think I remember either reading or someone saying to me it was the 14th or 15th of this month.

It will be interesting to see if SEGA are funding or merely publishing like they did with Monolith's Condenmned.

I hope that's something that got lost a bit in translation. I would prefer to see a lead character designed similar to Rose McGowan's Cherry (?) from Planet Terror.

Someone with actual guns for legs... or some bizarre DMC-esque variation on this. For some reason the 'guns on her feet' bit is making me think of that 50 Cent sequel. Don't ask me why. :P

But, in saying that... it sounds to me that this game will have a play style that will see the character jumping into the air and doing combos firing her 'appendages' at the enemies below.

Isn't there a supposed "Sega day" this week with information on the Silicon Knights game, Sonic Heroes and even Skies of Arcadia 2? There was some kind of list German websites were ordered to take down by Sega, so I think it was trustworthy. I'd expect more on this deal later this week then.

Straight from the site that fucked up

Quote:
SEGA has signed a multi-game publishing deal with Platinum Games, the studio set up by ex-Capcom developers Shinji Mikami, Hideki Kamiya and Atsushi Inaba.

Update, 1pm: The first game is called Bayonetta, directed by DMC creator Hideki Kamiya, and is described by our correspondent as a "stylish action game" with "a witch battling angels". Apparently she has guns on her feet.
Update, 1.03pm: The second game is a science-fiction RPG for the DS called Infinite Line, where you play as a starship captain, customising your ship and crew. It will be finished in the near future, according to our man on the scene.
Update, 1.12pm: The third is a Wii game called MadWorld. "Black and white Sin City graphics, with red blood. Ultra ultra violent. Fatality moves like shoving a post through someone's head. Chainsaw on your right arm."
Update, 1.14pm: MadWorld is being directed by Shigeru Nishikawa, who previously worked on Resident Evil 4.

Those are not rumors but the real deal

Er, have to? You can bet your ass they had their pick of many gentleman suitors.

And one-sentence descriptions say very little (guy in trenchcoat kills demons, wolf saves nature from dragon...I wouldn't even try to describe Viewtiful Joe), but if there is any peeps who earn sight-unseen excitement from me it's Kamiya and Mikami.

Shit will hit the fan(boys) upon embargo expirationz, methinks. Unless someone breaks it again first. C'MON EUROPE, DON'T FAIL ME NOW!!

Considering the other two are for the DS and Wii respectively and the fact Bayonetta is a bonkers sounding action title surely the good money has to be on PS360 and PC.

Why just one? SEGA are publishing. Clearly multi format. Right?

Wouldn't it be Shigenori Nishikawa ? Gamefaqs and Mobygame both list a certain Shigenori Nishikawa, credited on RE4 as game designer (as well as on the original Resident Evil and the Dino Crisis series).
Anyway, nitpicky spelling correction aside, I'm pretty damn interested in what these guys are going to come up with, so I'm hoping all of this is actually legit. Because that sounds pretty kickass.

Those are legit. There was a conference in Europe today. The conference was reported live on a website but then got embargoed propably because of some kind of exclusive (At best Famitsu this week).

I saw the website with my own eyes.

Back when Platinum was Seeds, they said they were working on a 360 game iirc.

My guess is either 360 or 360/PS3 multi.

I do think Sega's done better as a publisher than a developer these days, bringing titles to light such as Condemned, Chromehounds, Crush etc.
