UK :

Quote:
Despite sales slowing by 22%, Take 2/Rockstar’s ‘GTA IV’ holds on to pole position for a 5th consecutive week ahead of ‘Race Driver: GRID’ from Codemasters which lines up on the All Formats Chart at No2.
The latest game in the TOCA series also debuts at No2 in the Xbox 360 chart behind ‘GTA IV’, but has to settle for No3 in the PS3 chart behind ‘GTA IV’ at No1 and ‘Haze’ at No2. All Formats Top 10 regulars ‘Mario & Sonic’ and ‘Wii Play’ increase sales by 66% and 40% respectively – each rising one place, up to No’s 3 and 4. Euro 2008 kicks off next week and both ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2008’ and ‘FIFA 08’ climb the All Formats Top 10 in anticipation – PES08 up 2 places to No5 and FIFA up 1 place to No8. Sales of EA’s official offering also rise, with ‘UEFA Euro 2008’ up from No20 to No17. A strong retailer promotion reignites the career of ‘Sega Superstars Tennis’, serving up an All Formats Top 10 re-entry, up from No15 to No7. On the back of half-term, every game in the All Formats Top 10 gains sales except ‘GTA IV’ and Ubisoft’s PS3-exclusive ‘Haze’, down from No3 to No6 and ‘Mario Kart Wii’, which slips 2 places to No10.
In its second week of release EA’s ‘Rock Band’ is outplayed by Activision’s ‘Guitar Hero III’ with sales down 39%, dropping out of the Top 10, down from No6 to No12, while Activision’s 6 month old title rocks steady, down one place to No11. Activision have a Top 40 re-entry as ‘Quake Wars: Enemy Territory’ shoots back in at No15, boosted by new Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. After an impressive launch week, sales of ‘Age of Conan’ are down 69%, falling from the lofty heights of No2 to No16, while continued stock problems mean ‘Wii Fit’ remains outside the All Formats Top 40 – and even drops out of the Top 40 Wii Chart.

I was about to post that I was surprised that wii fit wasn't in the NL list.

Is it known for a fact that it was sold out? Last week I was in germany and there were plenty of wii fits...didn't seem like madness had taken over people there.

Ah so next week Etrian Odyssey will finally be released in Europe, and it's published by Nintendo if I'm not mistaken.

Better late than never. Already preordered it. I won't be able to play it until a few days later because of my finals though. :/

I think it dropped out of the top 40 from #2. I think they even stated it was because it was sold out.

*post saved for future chart comments* ;)

Seeing that list of DS games there are 4 that I could easily have been tempted by in a quiet week.

Guess I will wait for reviews as most of them could turn out quite bad (and do I really need Stratego after 42 in 1 nailed everything good about the game except the single player difficulty?!)

Bah, come on UK!

Btw, it's bank holiday today in Ireland so I don't think we'll get the numbers today. Like last week with UK

Sold out at Amazon here in Germany and my father didn't find one either this week (I told him to pre-order - damn casuals ). This of course can vary since Germany is such a big country but I think it's safe to assume that there are stock problems overall. I think it's likely this applies to the Netherlands as well. After all it had a huge drop from 4 right out of the charts with MKDS making a random re-entry.

Bit of anecdotal evidence - almost everything seems sold out in the town I live in (outside of Southampton, UK). Wii and Wii Fit were definitely sold out, but Xbox 360s and PS3s were in very very limited stock too.

My parents wanted to buy themselves an Xbox 360 with Halo 3 and GTA4 and both GAME and Argos were out of them (and PS3s too). Had to get it from Currys instead. My sister and her boyfriend wanted one too but they didn't even have enough stock for them after they sold the first to my parents!

Meh. But Boom Blox will probably have higher long-term sales while Haze is going to drop off the charts soon enough. Or at least I hope so.

From Chart Track:
Quote:
5 out of 5 for GTA IV

Prices actually rose from 99 pounds to 133 pounds on UK amazon over the last two weeks!

Hopefully it'll dethrone GTA4... But I have no idea how strong the first one was and if there is any marketing for this.

Ninja Gaiden debuted on the 15/05/04 chart at No.4.

(By Units charts only became available last year, so that was all-prices, all-formats).

Oh, I didn't know that Chart-Track has such an old archive online. Well, at least this time UEFA Euro game won't stand in its way.

I love the fact that the older games are selling better because they don't remind people that England are spectating too. (and are budget titles)

what can we tell from the fact GTA on 360 seems to be widening the gap to PS3? Its continuing to drive more hardware on 360 than ps3? or maybe there's more casuals on 360 that take longer to get the game?

The userbase will be catching up to the PS3 at this point. GTAIV has an incredibly high attach ratio.

But I suspect that GTAIV will push more 360 hardware, if not for the fact that Sony remain staunch with their price. I look forward to what MGS4 can do, if anything at all.

I know if it was me and I was greatly interested in GTAIV I would buy a 360 based on price alone.

To be honest it seems to be both.

Those people willing to pay £300 for GTAPS3 have been and gone, those wanting it for £200 on whichever format is cheapest are still shopping.

Certainly the massive user-base difference in the UK is helping the unit sales.

Its certainly declining slower than I expected, I thought that there might be a week of Wii madness at number one over half term.

Rock band seems to be suffering from 'me too' syndrome as everyone has guitar hero and no rush to do it all again so soon.

This, pretty much.

We've had quite a few of the big games already (PES, DMC, GTA etc) on PS3, the question is how many people are yet to buy a PS3 because of MGS4.

I don't think it's as many as a lot of people think.

That PS3 still has a long way to go in the UK? We all expected it to sell most on 360 in the UK due to the installed base. If GTAIV would seriously drive 360 sales beyond PS3 sales we would know by now. For all we know both are neck-to-neck atm.

was it 2/1 360/PS3 in the UK (hardware base)?

That cant change easily until new price drop or holiday season... I am sure MGS4 will sell well, but it can not sell 1 million PS3 units in the UK.

Total Europe is different story of course.

From last week:
Quote:
Sales of Xbox 360 consoles are 18 per cent ahead of the PlayStation 3 in the UK since the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV, Chart-Track told Eurogamer.
...

The effect on driving hardware sales has also been more dramatic on 360 than PS3, according to Chart-Track’s figures. Comparing sales of both consoles for the four weeks prior to GTA IV’s launch to the four weeks since its launch, hardware units have risen on 360 by 47 per cent, compared to just eight per cent on PS3.
...

Prior to the launch of GTA IV, the PS3 boasted a 20 per cent lead on 360.
