Twitter-pated: Following people's NeoGAF tweets
#1
Update: I love that this thread just won't die. Updated the OP with a working search link and my elusive Twitter handle (@searls)
I'm an avid Twitter user and was just punching in a few random keywords into Twitter search and enjoyed reading through the references to NeoGAF. http://twitter.com/#search?q=neogaf It's humorous how many are just people complaining about how they can't get in. You are part of a happening, exclusive club!

It's quicker for me to tweet 'hay guys I'm going to Sonic, are you there?' then to text it to 10+ people.
Unfortunately, it doesn't get used like this very often, because most of them don't have updates to their phone. BUT I CAN DREAM. I dunno. It's addictive. XD |

Not enough friends use this... YET
Also, I think, because of my stupid sister, 5-digit SMSs were disabled for our account. I need to get them re-enabled. http://twitter.com/M3wThr33 |

My twitter is at http://twitter.com/danj2k but it's kinda sparse right now as Twitter IM is (still!) down and that's my preferred update method.

Did the inventors of twitter punch you guys in the nuts or something? I don't understand why people are so addicted to MySpace and Facebook but I don't go about ragging on people who use those services. Lighten up.
Twitter is convenient and fun once you get into it with your friends. It's basically public, broadcast instant messaging. http://twitter.com/ckohler |

I started using it when I realized that I was updating my Facebook status all the time anyways, figured I might as well get a Twitter. |

I just started using twitter again. I think its a service that really makes sense through something like an iphone (or any phone I guess). Since the iphone's 2.0 firmware came out its making a lot more sense to me.

I didn't use Twitter at all for a while, and I thought it was pointless, but paired up with brightkite it's pretty cool. Making one line pithy twitter posts never did much for me, but being able to upload photos to it directly from my cell phone is pretty awesome. Twitter should be that feature fully integrated.
Actually, Twitter should probably make sure they stay up all the time before they start adding features. |

I use Twitter quite a bit, it's a lot of fun when you have a mix of real friends/random people/random interests/fake accounts/random web celebs to follow, though at times the people who really take it too far tweeting like 40 times a day almost make me want to stop using the service.
Oh, and it's great paired with an iPhone, obviously - Twittelator is fantastic: upload photos directly, location tracking, nice interface. Follow me, I'll follow you: I'm www.twitter.com/keanerie Added most of the people who posted their accounts. See you folks on the tweet wires.

Fell onto the Twitter bandwagon after a few internet acquaintances pressured me, and I figured it would be a good way to expand my interaction with my blog's readers:

I was really skeptical about twitter and didn't have one till recently, but now that I have one, it's addictive, like someone else says. It's comforting reading the inane things other people have to go through during their everyday lives.

Do you call all of your friends individually to ask who wants to come, or do you just post a Twitter message and they all get the invite right away? This is an example of technology being better than our current methods of communication. And why judge this use of Twitter poorly compared to using a phone, which would still be using technology to achieve a goal? I'm not a Twitter user, but I keep up with a couple of friends on there, and I can totally see how keeping up with the minor details of a person's life would be more interesting and actually potentially improve a friendship compared to just randomly getting together and struggling for shit to talk about. Now when you meet up with a friend, you know what shows they've been watching, what's going on with their family, what they're stressed about, and all sorts of shit you'd never really get out of casual conversation. You may know that they want to check out some new restaurant, so it opens the line of communication to call them up and invite them out. Shit like this has actually happened, and these boring little details of people's lives can be fucking useful when one isn't being a pessimistic luddite about it. Whenever I see people complain about Twitter or something similar, I get the feeling that these people are becoming the cranky old men that don't understand the youth or new rock music, except now they're turning into cranky old men in their teens. Twitter (and Facebook or Myspace or whatever else kids are using) has the potential to make people much more open about themselves to you than the usual short-sighted complaints would have you believe. |

Twitter would be infinitely more useful if I could somehow migrate my Facebook friends over - or if facebook improves their status updates and make it more akin to twitter. But as it stands now... it's pointless to use since none of my friends would ever commit to using it.

wow a tonne of new adds.
Its really nice and quick on the iPhone but the Twitterfox firefox addon has been great running away in the bottom of your browser and popping up when you get a new tweet. I really recommend checking it out too. |
