Official May 2008 NPD Thread - Wii, GTA IV, and more Wii
#1
Many thanks as always for NPD's continued support.
On the hardware front, the Wii continues to slaughter the competition, while the PS3 appears to get a pre-MGS bump? Or did the 360 underperform? From the software side, it's all GTA, Mario Kart Wii, & Wii Fit, with Wii Fit obviously being supply constrained. Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

I'm really really surprised at the Wii hardware and Wii Fit stock- Nintendo definitely overpromised on both. Who would have guessed that Wii stock would be lower this month than April?

Wii going down wasn't a big surprise, since it had less weekly ads showing it availability in May than in April. I'm shocked at the < 1 million (< 700K) showing for Wii Fit, though. Reggie had said 1 million Day 1 ...

I'm starting to believe this whole thing about the value of the US dollar being a reason for low shipments from Nintendo to NA...
they could easily have swamped the month even more if they had the supply... I guess their thinking is it's a slow time for shopping anyway and the plan is to flood supplies in Q4... |

Wowii
PS3 didn't do great, it performed at dismal proportions. And 360 performed at abysmal proportions. Both consoles should be pushing much higher numbers after GTA IV. Wii is now performing very well on both software and hardware. |
