UK :

Quote:
‘Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots’ flies the flag for Konami at the top of the All Formats Chart, becoming the 2nd fastest-selling PS3 game in the UK (behind ‘GTA IV’ but 2,000 units ahead of ‘GT5: Prologue’).
Released on Thursday only on Sony’s next-gen format, MGS4 denies ‘Lego Indiana Jones’ a second week at No1 despite sales of the multi-format LucasArts game falling by only 9%, bolstered by strong sales of the DS version and the release of a new PSP version. MGS4 beats MGS3 by 24,000 units, but falls 14,000 units short of overturning the launch week sales of the now legendary MGS2. Rockstar/Take 2’s ‘GTA IV’ slips another place, down to No3, while ‘Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games’ shows no signs of running out of puff – a non-mover at No4. Nintendo believe it’s not just Mums that need their brains trained as the Father’s Day Dr. Kawashima DS Lite hardware bundle helps boost the ever-popular DS title back into the All Formats Top 10, up from No12 to No5.
Two years old last week, Brain Training has now spent 74 weeks in the All Formats Top 10 (5 weeks more and it will equal the current record holder, ‘Tomb Raider’ with 79 weeks). ‘PES 2008’ may have dropped from No8 to No11, but Wii-exclusive ‘Sports Island’ gives the MGS publisher another All Formats Top 10 title this week, jumping from No14 to No8. Other than MGS4 the only other All Formats Top 10 new entry is ‘Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution’ from Take 2 at No9 – the first Civilization title to appear on a console, out on Xbox 360 and PS3. After 2 weeks in the All Formats wilderness, ‘Wii Fit’ returns to the Top 40, re-entering at No10 thanks to renewed stock. The only other All Formats Top 40 new entry this week is also from Take 2 – ‘Don King Presents: Prizefighter’ at No25

There was a Father's Day Pack with a DS and Brain Training in a box. I'm guessing they don't count towards the Brain Training sales?

Really depends what mood chart track, the retailers & Nintnedo are in.

If they scanned the barcode of the game then it counted separately, not having seen the boxes I'm not sure how it was packeaged. Thought this one was more of a taped to the box than a pack in.

From Chart Track:

The only other All Formats Top 40 new entry this week is also from Take 2 – ‘Don King Presents: Prizefighter’ at No25.

But the text doesn't compare it with GTA4, it compares it with MGS2 and 3.

All I'm saying is that MGS4 had an extra day of sales over MGS3, and 2, so comparing it is just silly.

Anyone want to make a reasoned guess at which year the following games will finally drop off the charts, never to return?

1. New Super Mario Bros.
2. Mario Kart DS
3. Brain Training.
4. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii)

I think GT5:P sold 108k in it's opening week so that would peg MGS4 at 110k.

It's like Moby's "Play" album or Bryan Adam's "Everything I do" single in videogame form.

I am thoroughly shocked by this week's charts.

Found Jonnyram's post with the numbers (from Famitsu who sourced from elspa/chart-track) - Here.

GTP5:P - 108k in March. I assume this only counts finished chart-track weeks (through Saturdays) but GT5 launched on 28th so it's opening week (28th/29th) would be covered here regardless. If not, somewhat less than 108k, but probably not by much.

March is usually a better month for video games than june is. Both MGS2 and MGS3 were released in early march.

I think MGS4 will be a big seller until XMas. It may be able stay above GTAIV for the rest of the year single platform charts.

Don't fret on Civ Rev's sales. It looks like anyone who has played the demo is considering a purchase. Sid Meier's name does have clout, even if it doesn't seem like it. I'd look for a slow burn on this one.

Okami entered at Wii 17 and 32 in the FP chart
Family Ski entered at Wii 20 and 37 in the FP chart (it's release tying in with rumours of further WiiFit stocks and the charts proving this).

Not bad really, but hardly stellar.

Yeah..it had a lot of competition on PS3 this week for starters. I'm definitely going to pick it up, MGS4 just won out by a hair's breadth this week.

Amazing sales for MGS4, I just hope it can stay that way. And comparing it to the other 2 is stupid seeing as the PS2 had a massive install base when 2 and 3 came out when compared to the PS3 install base.

It's not stupid in any sense. Beyond that, MGS2 came out at a comparable time to MGS4. But the point is to see how strong the franchise is performing on the new hardware compared to the old hardware.

When you see the difference in the install base, it is stupid.
