Konami has faxed solicitation info to retailers for this game. It's due out on 25th Sept this year in Japan, and is rated CERO C. Details as follows.

Arcade Mode:

- Single Mission. Choose to play 3 missions from a total of 4 missions with 4 difficulty settings each. Upload your score to Xbox Live, and upload and download replays.

- Versus Mission LIVE. Play with up to 3 players over Live in a special boss rush mode. Together you can fight against many bosses from the history of Konami's shooting games.

- Versus Mission LAN. Play with up to 3 players over System Link. Same as above.

Original Mode:

- Gradius Style. Special home console mode that plays like a traditional Gradius. It has a total of 6 stages, including new stages just for this mode.

- Full HD support. Full HD graphics are supported, with resolutions up to 1080p supported.

Xbox Live Support:

- Score Ranking. Compare your score ranking with players across the country. Replay data can be uploaded and downloaded as well.

- Co-op play. Supports co-op play with up to 3 players (Versus Mission).

- New characters via DLC.

- New stages via DLC.

- New BGM via DLC.

The official site updated as well with the same info, plus screenshots and a trailer!

http://www.konami.jp/products/otome_g/index.html

http://www.konami.jp/products/otome_g/data/otome_g.asx

In the trailer you can see the new modes and stuff. They really remade a bunch of classic Konami shmup bosses for the Versus Mission mode.

Edit: The trailer is also up on Japanese Marketplace.

How successful are these games when the come out on the 360? And why does MS have such an interest in getting these games?

Those questions aside, seems like it could be cool. I'll wait to see if I'll get it.

Also, this will probably be what pushes me to get a JP 360. Well, this and the Cave titles.

Thanks for the update, Ducky.

this gonna be disc based? any chance of it coming to the US? i've been craving an arcade shooter for a while now...

although for konami, ugh at this being 360 only... that means they probably kept the budget really low (seeing as they can't rely on US sales to save an arcade shooter like other jp developers hope to do with their 360 only rpgs) so i wonder how amazing it can really be. they'll be lucky if this thing sells 10k copies :(

Erm, you're aware this is an enhanced home port of an arcade game that's been out for some time in arcades right? It's not like they're making it just for the home market. :P

I agree. It was really forced and didn't add anything to the game. The actual shooter parts of Otomedius were fun, but I still get really mad with the decision to stick with the lame speed up system. If I die late in a stage with full speed, suddenly I'm slow and lame and it's just getting in the way of the game. I'll rather just have the system for weapons. :/

I liked it, despite being rather gimmicky. :P

Co-op online sounds awesome though.

The leveling and card systems make this game far more console port friendly than I think other shooters are.

its not like MS does anything for these exclusives, jap devs seem to like 360 because a) its cheap to port/develop for, and b) its not forced region free so they can sell their games for more to any western publishers willing to take them on

But it's a **dius game. What would be those without the speedup system? I like the challenge it gives.

The versus mode sounds like such a weird addition. I'm all for a Gradius style arrange mode, though.

Also, I thought RFA sold as much as Success/Gulti/whoever expected it to.

Have any of the Japanese 360 shooters outside of the live arcade made it over to the Western world? And what is the best shooter on Live available to US customers? I'd like to try one.

Three worthwhile XBLA shooters: Ikaruga, Omega Five, Triggerheart Excelica. Ikaruga and THE being arcade ports, Omega Five being 360 exclusive.

Do not play Ikaruga. It's a great game, but it's really horrible to introduce (or reintroduce) someone to the genre with.

Omega Five is great for beginners. You might be able to one credit clear it in a few hours/days, hard to say for someone totally new.

Triggerheart is thoroughly alright.

As far as disc based shooters go, you have Shikigami no Shiro 3 and Raiden Fighters Aces, neither of which have made it over here. Gonna take a shot in the dark and say that RFA contains the best shooters on the system.

IMO it's Sony's failure to acknowledge niche titles on the PS3 in favor of blockbuster bullshit. :\

It's doubly confounding to put a Japan friendly game, which relates heavily to the success of a popular Japanese artist, on a console that's really not all that successful in Japan.

And it's not like Americans are going to lap this one up. Not enough space marines and brown everywhere to appeal to the Nascar demographic.

Sure I'm bitching and at this point it would make the most sense to just slap the damn thing on the Wii. But hey. . .

Here's to hoping I get Otomedius on PS3 some day and you Xbox jerks get god awful Metal Gear. *barf!*

In Japan, the least successful consoles get lots of shmups support (See TurboDuo, Saturn, Dreamcast, etc.) It's a magical constant.
