Started this thanks to Diablo 2 feeling too outdated for me (used to be hxc), enjoying it a lot even though I feel lost 50% of the time. Hunter mastery is really, really good. It's nice to feel insanely overpowered at level 8.

Yes, and I would highly recommend doing it as you are progressing through the game. If you hit a boss that is easy (and the save point is near by). Just save your game and exit, then restart and run the boss again. You can often get incredible items on your second/third consecutive run.

There are severe diminishing returns on consecutive boss runs in the expansion, IIRC. So endless boss runs are not a good proposition, but doing a couple runs on a given boss can indeed yield nice results.

Kind of - after the first run, they no longer have a 'guaranteed' good drop, but most powerful bosses still have the best overall drop rate for Epic/Legendary items.

Generally though, farming is a mix of whacking certain bosses, and clearing certain areas. Because of the way TQs loot system works, you might be hunting for a specific monster item, so you'll need to farm an area with lots of those creatures, or monster charms, which again drop from certain enemies, or relics, which drop in specific acts, and so on.

For pure unique/rare loot farming, there are a LOT of different bosses you can potentially farm, plus some areas with a lot of chests etc in the area.

If you eventually get a really godlike character, you can farm anywhere, but otherwise, you usually go wherever is most comfortable and quick for your character to slowly build up your loot stockpile.

Though I'll echo what's been said - even for farming, its more fun coop. Get a partner! I've been running all my games as public neogaf fanpatch with pw believe.

Never played Diablo? :D

All enemies respawn every time you restart the game. Though not always the same enemies - depends on the area. Bosses are the same, 'normal' groups are randomized (and so are their 'group chests'). Some groups and some chests are static. Just depends on the area.

Okay, I've somehow misplaced my copy of Diablo II and was considering a Diablo-like to keep me busy till D3 finally unveils itself. Honestly, how does this game rate up against it? I'd never kept tabs on it - always figured D3 was on its way so why bother with the look-alike when you can get the original, you know? But if it's good, I might very well buy it.

As already stated, just start over! (Exit to Main Menu and reload the game). The best Bosses to whack are the ones where a rebirth shrine are fairly close and the road to said boss is fairly straightforward. One good example is the Queen Spider in the first Act. I got my best equipment from her and I'm already in the next Act.

Doh, I kind of missed this. I was responding to boss farming, not your post directly.

I don't know if it was clear, but bosses in this game aren't like wow - they don't have specific drops. If you got a set unique item, you just got lucky. It could drop just about anywhere. Trying to farm up a specific set is an exercise in patience, you're far better off trading for the pieces.

http://www.titanquest.net/forums/trading/

The only real exception is that for monster items, a boss of that type COULD drop them. So, eg, the gorgons could drop the rare monster items that regular gorgons drop. Same thing with Polyphemus and the Cyclops rare club, etc.

Oh that's why when you restart all of the enemies are there again and the map looks grey. I didn't think you could also re-fight bosses. I going to go do some of that :D

Legendary Gorgons drop the best item in the game...the Stonebinder Cuffs. +3 points to all skills plus a bunch of crazy modifiers such as +40% elemental resistance, +40% pierce resistance, +40% attack speed, etc. If you pair it up with a legendary crystal relic...you get +5 points to all skills!

Aussies, not sure if this is the best deal, but EB have both TQ and TQ:IT in their '2 for $50" pile, so you can walk away with both for.... $50. I'm good to go :)

I have a bunch of random junk rares that need a good home :P

Just got my first piece of Obsidian Armor in the Second Act (after a few runs on the first boss). Has some kickass perks (like raising your attack speed). I also have an Obsidian Cleaver (I believe). I'll see if they go together.

I also got an Armor from that Run that grants Poison and Fire protection plus granting me the Ability "Plague" which causes a disease that eats away at the enemies health (which then passes on to nearby enemies) :D (Which is great for the boss, when he summons the scarabs, cast Plague and that takes them out without me even having to focus on them).

something like this works for a harbinger-keys are dual weild and it's abilities, onslaught, distort reality and your bread and butter phantom strike.

distort reality + temporal flux gives a nontargeted point blank AE stun. Since you are melee, the slow on distortion wave isn't nearly as useful IMO. I use it as a combo to follow up a phantom strike-pop in, massive single target damage, AE stun, beat the rest of the pack down.

ancestral horn is crutch for boss fights until you can get better gear, then repsec'ing to max out the dual weild tree might not be a bad idea.

What do you guys suggest when your Blue Gear (Armor) starts to becomes less (Armor Rating wise) to the gear Merchants offer? In my mind, I'm reluctant to let go of the Blue Gear that offers Fire Protection and Increased Attack Speed from some Blue Armor for some Vanilla White and Yellow Gear that just offers much better Armor (I'm talking like 10-20+ Armor rating over the gear I have currently).

I'm going to be playing this game via LAN with a few buddies and I have a few questions. Sorry if it's been asked already, I haven't read through the whole thread yet.

1. Should I start with TQ or IT? I don't even know if you can skip right to IT.
2. Should I patch both games to the unofficial patch?
3. Also, should I start on normal or just go with Epic/Legendary?
4. Do those modes have better loot as well?
5. Are those modes in IT only?

Thanks in advance.

It would help if you described :
- the exact place you are stuck in (I suppose it's the giant spider guarding the olive tree in Act 1) ?
- your current level
- your choice of masteries

Then we'd be able to help you.

1) IT, it adds Act 4 and a bunch of stuff that you can use in TQ right away

2) TQ patches to 1.3 or so. IT has no patch. If you're going to play with friends, use the fan patch, it fixes a bunch of IT bugs, including some skills that didn't work and items that didn't drop, etc

3) Normal, Epic is for level 35+ You can't even start it until you beat Normal, same for Legendary, you have to beat Epic

4) Yes

5) No

That's just something you'll have to get a feel for. Increased resists aren't too too important in Normal, though they can make certain boss fights much easier. They're near mandatory in Epic+ (at the very least Piercing, because archer packs become so lethal do to the resist penalty).

IAS is always nice.

As for armor, it's complicated, but long story short - armor is basically your 'physical resistance'. Any armor blocks up to 66% of incoming damage, up to whatever your armor value is. There's a skill in the Defense tree (and a very few other things) that can raise that 66% value.

When you get hit, there's a 40% chance your chest will get hit, then 20/20/20 for head/legs/arms. For that reason, if you have good chest armor but really weak head armor, every now and then you're going to take a very hard hit.

Armor does not block piercing damage, nor does it help with any other type of damage, that's what resists are for.

If you're a melee character, your armor is very important, as it keeps you alive against the bulk of the enemies you're fighting. If you're ranged/caster and you move a lot, armor tends to be less of an issue.

And don't even think about white gear. Ignore it at stores, and you should have your 'show magical' key bound to something close by your fingers :P

I'm completely baffled how you could have an issue with this boss at that point. Drink potion, dive in, cut to pieces, back out to heal?

Post your skill build and the tactics you're using www.titancalc.com

@Calder

Yes, yes it is. And yes it does, take Hunting for bow usage. What you pair it with is up to you.

@Balrog

Probably not. Like they said, check the demo, but that sounds a bit weak for it. TQ was a bit of a beast even when it launched, and your laptop is older than that.
