So, is Cuil the next (kinda) big thing?
#1
I hear all this talk about the search engine Cuil being able to make a good name for itself in the search engine world. Anybody else agree?
I would like to invest in something and - although I'm not sure if you can invest in Cuil right now (anybody that knows different please point me in the direction to do so) - after missing the Google train, this would seem like it has some potential. Afterall, if it gets just 1% of the marketshare, isn't it worth billions? What do you all think? |

I think its quircky search results will keep people from using it at first. The order of its results.... not very good...
Try searching for something like akiba online. There's a site with that name but the results on the first page are sites that mention akiba online ![]() |

No. To get marketshare from Google, a search engine would have to be revolutionary.
Powerset is messing around with sematic web stuff, so they have a better shot of gaining popularity (not now, but if they keep progressing) than Cuil. http://www.powerset.com/ |

lol, no. Cuil is definitely not the next big thing. They blew it by launching too early. Plus, Google's so entrenched that to displace them you're going to have to not just be better, but better by a significant margin. Cuil isn't.

Haha sorry about the picture...I don't know why it is coming up that big for you all...it was normal on mine?? Ah well, deleted it...it was getting old anyways...
Yeah I just read an article on how the servers went down within hours after Cuil launched...not a good sign....damn I was really hoping to get into something that could have a little name for itself. |

Cuil is a total disaster of a search engine right now. Pretty much completely useless, and I think the only reason they got any news exposure is because it's founders are some ex-google people. I can think of a couple no-name search engines that all do a much better job.
As an example of what google does - I have noticed that when someone starts a thread here, any random thread, few minutes later you can search for some phrases from that thread, and google finds them. Few minutes. Thread on GAF. What can anyone possibly make to beat that kind of speed of information indexing? |

If a new search engine ever becomes better than Google, it will not be a start up.
The amount of capital Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft have sunk into their offerings is enormous, simply can not be matched by venture capital, and it shows in the results. All three are much better than Cuil, even as Microsoft and Yahoo are still noticibly inferior to Google. |

I'd never heard of Cuil. In the few things I've tried, it's actually come up with some really good results with less garbage than google spits out, and I like the presentation.
I'm actually going to give this a shot for a while. Not sure why so many of you are so cynical about it. |
